Sylvan Learning is the industry leader in supplemental education, helping students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 build confidence and achieve academic success.
We are looking for enthusiastic part-time Reading & Writing Tutors who enjoy working with students. As a Sylvan Instructor, you will receive comprehensive training in the Sylvan teaching method and curriculum, along with the tools and support needed to teach in a small-group setting (up to 3 students per instructor).
Responsibilities- Teach reading and writing using Sylvan programs and instructional methods
- Support students in developing reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, spelling, and writing skills
- Assist students with English homework and assignments when appropriate
- Motivate, encourage, and engage students throughout each lesson
- Recognize and reward student achievement
- Evaluate and document student progress
- Build positive relationships with students and create a fun, supportive learning environment
- Monday–Thursday: 2:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
- Friday: 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
- Saturday: 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field, or currently pursuing one
- Previous tutoring or teaching experience preferred
- Familiarity with the BC Curriculum is an asset
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent written and verbal English skills
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Passion for helping students build confidence and become stronger readers and writers
- Available to work 2+ shifts per week

This is a part-time Reading & Writing Tutor position based in Langley Township, BC at Sylvan Learning.
Hours of instruction are Monday–Thursday 2:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m., Friday 2:30 p.m.–5:30 p.m., and Saturday 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
You will teach reading and writing using Sylvan programs, support reading comprehension and writing skills, assist with English homework when appropriate, and evaluate student progress.
A bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field (or currently pursuing one) is required, with preferred prior tutoring or teaching experience and strong English skills.
Familiarity with the BC Curriculum is an asset for this role.
You will teach in a small-group setting with up to 3 students per instructor, using the Sylvan teaching method and curriculum.
The role requires availability to work 2+ shifts per week across the listed days and times.
