Job Summary
Reporting directly to Foreperson, the Journeyperson Welder, will be responsible for performing welding and fabrication work in accordance with company standards, project specifications, and applicable codes. This role involves interpreting technical drawings, preparing materials, assembling and welding components, and operating fabrication equipment to produce high-quality work.
The incumbent ensures all work meets required quality and inspection standards, follows established safety procedures, and collaborates effectively with team members and supervision with the ability to work independently. The position also includes maintaining tools and equipment and supporting overall shop or site operations as required.
The incumbent will conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission, vision and values of Lynco, as well as adherence to all established Policies and Procedures.
This Direct Service Provider position is based in the Lloydminster region of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy materials.
- Read and interpret isometric drawings and welding procedure specifications.
- Fit, tack, and weld components to precise tolerances.
- Fabricate structural steel, pipe spools, brackets, supports, and custom components.
- Conduct weld preparation including grinding, beveling, and material cleaning.
- Operate cutting torches, plasma cutters, and fabrication tools.
- Complete welds that meet code requirements and pass visual and non-destructive examination inspections.
- Follow all safety procedures, including hot work protocols and hazard assessments.
- Work collaboratively with pipefitters, fabricators, supervisors, and Quality Assurance /Quality Control personnel.
- Maintain tools, equipment and a clean work area; and,
- Other relatable duties as required.
Qualifications
- Journeyman Welder certification is required. Red Seal is preferred.
- Five (5) years of experience in an industrial environment is required
- Valid safety certification may be required based on site-specific requirements, including but not limited to Construction Safety Training System ‘CSTS', WHMIS, Confined Space, Fall Protection
- Pre-employment Alcohol & Drug test is required.
- Proficiency with shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), and/or flux-cored arc welding (FCAW) processes is required.
- Ability to pass weld tests as required by the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) or site-specific requirements.
- Strong understanding of welding symbols, procedures, and industry standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
- Ability to travel and work on all work sites without restrictions.
- Ability to work shift work, including overtime when required. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Physically capable of lifting, climbing, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
- Ability to weld in all positions.
- Experience in industrial construction, oil & gas, mining, or fabrication shops is preferred.
- Familiarity with pipe welding, pressure welding, or structural welding.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills; and,
- Ability to mentor apprentices.
