About FNTI (First Nations Technical Institute)

FNTI is an Indigenous-owned and governed post-secondary institution dedicated to serving Indigenous learners. Established in 1985, FNTIhas graduatedover 4,000 students through certificate, diploma, and degree programs delivered in partnership with Ontarios colleges and universities.

Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Experiential Learning, the Cohort Supervisor plays a key academic role in facilitating, developing, and assessing all Integrated Experiential Learning (IEL) courses. Working closely with learners and faculty, this role ensures curriculum quality assurance while actively leading Indigenous community engagement. Key responsibilities include identifying community sites, establishing learning pathways, and negotiating critical contracts between FNTI and community stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

Teaching and Delivery Responsibilities

• Instruct and collaborate on the delivery of IEL Courses aligned with learning outcomes.
• Support a respectful, kind, safe, and welcoming environment for all participants.
• Ensure learning/ceremonial spaces honor equity, diversity, and inclusion (respecting all bodies, gender identities, and sexual orientations).
• Create collaborative, learner-centered spaces across in-person, virtual, and hybrid formats using diverse andragogical strategies.
• Facilitate assessments throughout the full scope of the IEL experience.
• Implement learner Accommodation Plans according to FNTI policies.
• Integrate Indigenous protocols (openings/closings, smudging, circles, drumming) and traditional healing practices.
  

Integrated Experiential LearningSupervision

• Approve individual learner IEL plans and track/approve accumulated hours adhering to regulatory practices.
• Review participant progress and renew personal IEL plans with the Manager and program team.
• Support data collection, tracking, and interpretation; provide regular reports to leadership.
• Participate in team meetings and provide written updates on assigned cohorts.
• Engage with Student Services and academic teams to ensure wraparound learner support.
• Facilitate relationship building and mentor learners through regular individual sessions to foster reciprocity and knowledge sharing.
  

Integrated Community Experience and Engagement

• Manage and nurture meaningful relationships with external partners and IEL Site teams.
• Develop and deliver orientation activities for IEL Site Partners.
• Support administrative processes, including learner tracking, policy/program development, strategic planning, and quality assurance.
• Collaborate with site teams to safeguard and store required documentation.
• Serve on institutional committees as requested.
  

Qualifications:

Education and Experience

• Completed Master ofSocial Workor related graduate education emphasizing experiential learning and instructional design in an Indigenous context.

• Significant experiencewith experiential learning, portfolio development,practicumor internship supervision

• 5 or more years of teaching and/or practical experience.

• Evidence of teaching and Indigenous education and practice experience working with Indigenous learners and communities, withdemonstratedpotential for a successful trajectory aligned with the vision and mission of FNTI.

• A combination of Indigenous knowledge and teachings,trainingand experience which FNTI deems to beappropriate tothe role.

• Demonstrated knowledge of the history of Indigenous peoples and communities;

• Previouswork includes creating teaching and learning environments that support shared decision-making, collaboration, and collegiality.

• Practical experience working with and developing relationships and collaborative projects within Indigenous communities.

• History of participation in community learning/experientialfacilitation, mentorship, or related roles.

• Proven experience in community engagement and relationship building.

• Committed to fostering growth by mentoring others and embracing opportunities to be mentored.

• Knowledge of wise practices in experiential learning and ability to incorporate current innovations into teaching,learningand practice arerequired.

• Ability to communicate with diverse audiences from local community members to staff and academic team members.

• Must understand the importance of creating accessible,relevantand empowering programming for Indigenous learners and communities that is rooted in Indigenous knowledge.

• Ability todemonstratean understanding and commitment to quality assurance in an Indigenous Institute, an asset.

• Must be able todemonstrateand articulate the importance of education as a reconciliation tool for Indigenous learners.

• Knowledge of the histories and contexts of the Indigenous peoples of Canada, including UNDRIP and the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.

• Passion for community engagement and a commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments that favor reciprocity and sharedbenefit.

• Ability to adapt teaching methods to diverse learning styles.

• Working familiarity with AODA and Placement/Site based Health and Safetyprotocolsan asset.

• UnderstandingofLMS/Brightspace system will be considered an asset.

Conditions of Employment

• Willing and able to travel occasionally and work overtime asrequired.
