Job Title: Financial Controller

Location: Ottawa, ON

Reports To: CEO

Salary Range: $135,000- $160,000

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented, hands-on Financial Controller to oversee and handle financial operations for a well-established company located in Ottawa, ON. The Financial Controller will be responsible for financial reporting, ensuring regulatory compliance and providing strategic financial guidance to senior leadership.

This role requires strong technical accounting expertise, the ability to manage multiple divisions and inventories, and a proactive approach to financial analysis and operational improvement and excellence.

Core Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial statements and analytical reports, analyze variances
• Maintain financial standards; ensure cost control and provide feedback and recommend
• improvements to other departments working closely with sales, inventory and distribution
• Provide financial advisory support to the CEO regarding performance, profitability, and strategic initiatives
• Ensure compliance of the company's financial statements with applicable accounting standards and regulations
• Monitor and safeguard company assets, including inventory and fixed assets
• Approve checks and expense/balance sheet account allocations
• Produce and submit weekly and monthly sales report to the CEO
• Ensure compliance with commercial agreements
• Calculate raw material and finished goods
• Perform bank reconciliations and record complex accounting transactions
• Manually reconcile divisional inventories and investigate discrepancies
• Oversee and support a team of accounting support staff

Qualifications & Experience

• Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA)
• Excellent communication skills in both English and French (full working proficiency)
• Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a multi-division or franchise-based environment
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls
• Experience with inventory and cost accounting
• Experience managing foreign currency transactions
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
