Location

This is an Alberta-based role located in Calgary, Alberta, and the successful candidate is expected to be based in, or willing to relocate to, the Calgary area. That said, consideration will be given to an exceptional candidate located in another Canadian province where the candidate can demonstrate the ability to fulfil the on-site, client-facing, and regulatory engagement demands of the role. Frequent travel should be expected, driven primarily by client acquisition.

Company Overview

Systemic Trust Company (STC) is a special purpose trust corporation incorporated under the Loan and Trust Corporations Act (Alberta) and registered with Alberta Treasury Board and Finance (ATBF). STC provides institutional-grade digital asset custody services to accredited and institutional clients across Canada, specifically Canadian family offices and crypto-native funds seeking secure, compliant custody solutions for digital assets such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. STC operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of DMG Blockchain Solutions Inc. (TSXV: DMGI).

Position Summary

The Chief Executive Officer holds ultimate accountability for leading STC from licensing to commercialization. This is a high-accountability, revenue-first mandate in a newly licensed Canadian digital asset custodian, and a sales-led CEO role requiring direct ownership of revenue generation rather than delegation. Success depends on the ability to personally originate and close institutional relationships particularly within Canadian family offices and crypto-native funds while building a credible and compliant platform in a competitive market. The CEO is responsible for establishing institutional credibility, building a scalable custody platform, and stewarding STCs governance framework in compliance with Albertas Loan and Trust Corporations Act and applicable securities legislation. The CEO reports to the Board of Directors and works in close partnership with the Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Technology Officer.

Key Responsibilities

Commercial Leadership & Revenue Generation

  • Personally originate and close institutional custody mandates with Canadian family offices, crypto-native funds, pension funds, and broker-dealers, and develop and lead a high-functioning sales team to do the same.
  • Own and execute STCs pipeline development, RFP responses, and pitch leadership, leveraging networks, referrals, and direct outreach to originate mandates.
  • Serve as the senior relationship owner for key client accounts, maintaining executive-level engagement and identifying scope expansion opportunities.
  • Represent STC at industry conferences, regulatory roundtables, and client events to generate new business and build market credibility.

Strategy & Service Development

  • Define STCs competitive positioning and value proposition as a trusted, regulated Canadian custody alternative.
  • Direct the development of strategic partnerships with prime brokers, OTC desks, exchanges, and fund administrators.
  • Evaluate new service offerings in collaboration with the Chief Compliance Officer and Chief Technology Officer, ensuring commercial soundness, technical feasibility, and regulatory alignment before market launch.
  • Transition STC from licensed entity to active custodian with live assets, establishing onboarding processes and client experience standards.

Corporate Governance & Board Relations

  • Serve as the primary liaison between management and the Board, providing timely reporting on commercial, operational, financial, and regulatory matters.
  • Maintain STCs governance framework in compliance with Albertas Loan and Trust Corporations Act (LTCA) and applicable securities legislation, in partnership with the Chief Compliance Officer.
  • Align execution with the expectations of STCs Board and DMG Blockchain Solutions Inc.

Regulatory Engagement

  • Develop and maintain senior-level relationships with Alberta Treasury Board and Finance (ATBF), the Alberta Securities Commission (ASC), FINTRAC, and relevant Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) members.
  • Participate in industry consultations and policy working groups.

Financial Stewardship & Risk Oversight

  • Own STCs profit and loss, working with the Chief Financial Officer on financial planning, fee structures, and pricing to ensure competitiveness and sustainability.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, commercial ambition, and governance best practices appropriate for a regulated trust institution.

Candidate Profile

Experience

  • CEO or "CEO-ready" candidate with five to ten years of progressive experience in business development, institutional sales, or a CEO/general management role, with proven success serving family offices, investment funds, and alternative asset managers.
  • Demonstrated track record of personally originating and closing institutional mandates, with full ownership of a revenue or P&L target.
  • Strong familiarity with digital assets and crypto markets.
  • An existing network or credibility within Canadian capital allocators or crypto funds is highly preferred.
  • Experience in regulated financial environments, with working familiarity with the LTCA, NI 31-103 qualified custodian requirements, and FINTRACs AML/ATF obligations.

Core Competencies

  • Operational execution ability to transition STC from a licensed entity to an active, revenue-generating custodian.
  • Financial sophistication, ownership of profit and loss, pricing, and commercial sustainability.
  • Leadership and team building, capacity to recruit, develop, and lead a high-functioning team as assets under custody scale.
  • Strategic thinking, identification of adjacent opportunities across partnerships, product expansion, and distribution channels.
  • External credibility, standing and relationships with sophisticated capital allocators and funds.
  • Change management, effectiveness in leading an early-stage, fast-evolving regulated institution.

Personal Attributes

  • Entrepreneurial and self-directed, comfortable owning outcomes without delegation.
  • High integrity, a critical attribute in a custody business.
  • Commercially assertive, comfortable initiating and closing deals.
  • Thoughtful and risk-aware.
  • Comfortable engaging directly with sophisticated capital allocators.

Education & Credentials

  • An undergraduate degree in finance, business, economics, law, or a related discipline is expected.
  • An MBA, CFA, or equivalent graduate credential is a meaningful asset, but not a requirement where operating experience is demonstrably strong.

Regulatory Requirements

The successful candidate must meet Alberta Treasury Board and Finance (ATBF) fit-and-proper requirements applicable to senior officers of an Alberta-licensed trust corporation, and must satisfy all related approvals under the Loan and Trust Corporations Act (Alberta) prior to appointment. All applications will be treated in strict confidence.
