Jump Recruitment, on behalf of our client, is currently seeking a proactive and driven Business Manager to join their growing engineering firm. This role is the day-to-day operational, people, and financial leader of the business, responsible for financial management, driving the execution of strategic initiatives, and embedding the systems and structures that foster a culture where people take pride in delivering quality work.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

Reporting directly to the President, the Business Manager provides leadership and oversight of the company's day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient, profitable, and strategically aligned performance. Responsible for finance, human resources, operations, internal systems, and business development, this role serves as a key advisor to the President and drives organizational effectiveness, growth, and continuous improvement.

Success in this position requires a hands-on leadership style and confidence to take ownership, solve problems, and deliver results.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Management

  • Lead all aspects of the company's financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, financial reporting, bookkeeping oversight, and performance analysis.
  • Oversee the work of the company's bookkeeper, ensuring accuracy and compliance with established processes.
  • Monitor financial performance against budgets and targets, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide the President with timely financial reporting, business insights, and recommendations to support informed decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls, financial processes, and policies that promote effective governance, risk management, and financial accountability.

People Leadership and Human Resources

  • Lead the organization's people strategy, ensuring the talent, structure, and capabilities required to achieve business objectives.
  • Foster a high-performance culture that promotes accountability, employee engagement, and operational excellence.
  • Establish performance expectations, KPIs, and accountability measures across the organization, providing coaching and support to leaders and addressing performance issues as needed.
  • Oversee compensation planning, talent development, and retention initiatives to attract, engage, and retain top talent.
  • Develop and implement scalable HR programs, policies, and processes that support organizational growth, operational effectiveness, and a positive employee experience.

Operational Leadership

  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring activities are executed efficiently, issues are resolved proactively, and priorities are aligned with organizational goals.
  • Coordinate and oversee the execution of business priorities and strategic initiatives, translating objectives into measurable results and integrating them with budgeting, planning, and performance management processes.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve operational systems, processes, and workflows to enhance efficiency, productivity, and scalability.
  • Establish performance measures, KPIs, and accountability frameworks that drive operational excellence and support organizational objectives.
  • Lead resource planning and workforce allocation to optimize the use of personnel, equipment, and other organizational resources.
  • Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and risk management by ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements, industry standards, and company policies.

WHAT YOU BRING:

  • Education and Experience
  • Degree or diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • 5-10+ years of progressive leadership experience overseeing business operations, finance, human resources, administration, and/or professional services environments.
  • Experience in engineering, consulting, construction, or other professional services environments is considered an asset.
