Through a skilled team of experts, we offer end-to-end design services, encompassing programming, concept & envisioning, brand ideation, interior design, FF&E selection, procurement and coordination, and art and styling services.

ROLE
Ste Marie is hiring an Intermediate Designer with a strong drive to elevate design excellence across the hospitality, multi-residential, retail, and wellness sectors. The ideal candidate is inquisitive, self-motivated, and disciplined, with the ability to translate creative vision into thoughtful, well-executed design.

This role requires strength in creative ideation, technical execution, communication, and collaboration, along with a solid understanding of the full project lifecycle. A proactive, curious approach - grounded in research, rigor, and craft - is key.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the Creative Director, Associate, and Project Lead to develop and execute design solutions aligned with project objectives and the established design narrative.
  • As directed, assume responsibility as Project Lead on select projects.
  • Conceptualize, develop, and present designs, including 3D modeling, rendered elevations, mood boards, image research, and sourcing of materials, fixtures, and furniture.
  • Produce accurate and complete CAD drawings, specifications, and schedules in accordance with studio standards.
  • Create and review construction drawing sets, ensuring accuracy, compliance with technical standards, and fidelity to the design intent.
  • Coordinate samples and information with internal teams, clients, consultants, and product representatives.
  • Attend and contribute to client and consultant meetings, supporting coordination and documentation.
  • Support contract administration, including preparation of site instructions, submittal reviews, and issue resolution during construction.
  • Conduct site visits and prepare site review and deficiency reports.
  • Support FF&E design and execution, including sourcing, procurement coordination, and on-site styling and installation.
  • Lead by example, adhering to internal procedures related to documentation, drawing standards, FF&E, and time tracking.
  • Mentor and support junior designers through guidance and knowledge sharing.
  • Manage workload effectively, working independently while seeking support to ensure quality and schedule adherence.
  • Communicate openly with team members regarding progress, priorities, and support needs.
  • Represent the studio professionally, fostering strong relationships with clients, vendors, and collaborators.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4 - 8 years of professional experience in interior design, with demonstrated work in hospitality and multi-residential projects.
  • Degree or diploma in Interior Design, Building Technology, or Architecture.
  • Fluency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Proficiency Enscape, Figma, Fohlio, Bluebeam Revu, M365, and Revit is an asset.
  • Strong technical capability, including interpreting and producing detailed construction drawings and specifications.
  • Comprehensive understanding of building codes, materials, construction methods, and millwork detailing.
  • Knowledge of design phases and deliverables, with the ability to match the appropriate level of detail to each stage.
  • Understanding of the FF&E process, including custom design and coordination with procurement teams.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, both verbal and visual.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to take direction and contribute within a team environment.
  • Organized, adaptable, and self-motivated, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Passionate about design, with a strong creative and technical portfolio that demonstrates craft and curiosity.
  • Commitment to learning and professional growth, with interest in advancing within the studio.
