As a Feed Mill Operator, you are responsible for all items and duties related to the feed mill operation, including, but not limited to the efficient operation of hammer mill(s), loose oat hull pre-cleaner, groat recovery systems, and required sample testing for each function. Additionally, you may be required to load Feed Oatmeal bulk trucks.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maximize operations in the mill on a daily basis by focusing on adjustments, testing, and operations of all equipment
  • Efficient processing of hulls including grinding and cleaning
  • Maintain efficient operation of the feed byproduct hammer mills as well as screening systems.
  • Must be knowledgeable in the operation, monitoring and testing processes of the metal detector as a critical control point
  • Maintain and troubleshoot minor mechanical issues
  • Use computers to operate equipment, document production reports, and work orders.
  • Assist with loading bulk shipments of Human Consumption finished product
  • Maintain clean work areas and perform daily sanitation tasks
  • Follow all safety and food safety procedures to prevent contamination and ensure compliance
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent is required
  • Knowledge of feed mill and bulk loading processes is preferred
  • Must have the experience or the ability to operate applicable equipment (augers, hammer mill, screening systems, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail and self-motivated
  • Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills
  • Computer skills in Microsoft windows, Word and Excel are preferred
  • Ability to multi-task with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Comfortable working at heights, confined spaces, and with grain allergens (e.g., dust)
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills both verbally and in written communication
  • Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and climbing stairs/ladders
  • Must be comfortable working in an outside environment with exposure to weather extremes

Hours of work

This position will be working 12-hr Modified shift schedule, including Weekend and night shifts.
