IMPORTANT: This is an on-call contract position. Candidates must be available to work on an as-needed basis and respond to scheduling requirements as assigned.
We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Technician for an on-call contract assignment in the downtown Toronto area. Candidates must be located in Toronto and have previous maintenance technician experience clearly listed on their resume. This role supports daily building operations, equipment checks, and general facility upkeep within a professional environment.
Location: Downtown Toronto (University Ave. & College St.)
Schedule: On-Call, Days Only — 8:00am to 4:00pm (Mon–Fri) as required
Pay: $22.00 – $23.50 per hour
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily rounds and record readings for all equipment, including start-up and shutdown procedures, and address issues as they arise
- Inspect, operate, and maintain mechanical and electrical systems (boilers, chillers, HVAC units, pumps, generators, UPS, life safety systems)
- Complete preventive and demand maintenance tasks such as filter changes, belt inspections/replacements, and greasing bearings
- Carry out general repairs including faucet replacements, clearing drains/sumps, and resetting breakers
- Support building upkeep with minor paint touch-ups and mechanical room clean-up
- Respond to tenant/client requests and emergencies; report unsafe conditions or unusual events to the supervisor
- Assist or supervise contractors and external service providers as required
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Previous experience in facilities maintenance and building operations
- Proven experience as a maintenance technician
- Mechanically inclined with experience using hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools
- Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods
- Working knowledge of tools, common appliances, and building systems
- Strong manual dexterity and problem-solving abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent; HVAC or building maintenance certification is an asset
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) is preferred but not required
- Demonstrated accountability, judgment, and decision-making skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when required
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong ability to interact professionally with clients, tenants, management, and team members
- This is an on-call contract opportunity with hours scheduled based on operational requirements.
