Overview and Purpose of the Role

Reporting to Director of Professional Practice, Education & Academic Partnerships this role will focus on the professional development of emerging leaders and the development of interprofessional education. The incumbent will work collaboratively with the leadership and interprofessional clinical teams to identify staff education needs and ensure that relevant clinical and educational programs are provided to staff. The Clinical Nurse Educator will work to advance professional nursing practice and the practice of other professions as appropriate through leadership, learning and development, integration of research, education and best practice, critical thinking inquiry and analysis.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and evaluate education programs that support the development of the staff within the program
  • Plan and implement quality improvement initiatives to integrate person centered care, advance best practice and support the professional development of staff
  • Promote teamwork, quality management, competency in clinical skills and patient-focused care
  • Participate in the implementation and evaluation of program quality and safety of corporate education initiatives
  • Plans and facilitates orientation of new staff to the various clinical areas
  • Identify and lead opportunities to conduct and integrate interprofessional research projects
  • Demonstrate teaching and leadership abilities, conflict management
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively make and manage change
  • Facilitate the utilization of nursing staff resources throughout the organization by understanding the organizational services
  • Understand the staff to patient ratios for the various services and the variability of these ratios
  • Support, attend, and facilitate corporate and own program specific meetings and quality initiatives (i.e., Corporate Orientation, Professional Practice Committee, Unit-Based councils)
  • Report and investigate safety concerns according to company policies and procedures; collaborate to address quality and risk management issues in consultation with reporting manager
  • Corporate Responsibilities:
  • Participate in all mandatory training requirements and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines
  • Be responsible for and ensure that all staff supervised are trained and work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, company Policies and Procedures, as well as established industry guidelines

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Certification or registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) required
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required
  • Master's degree in Nursing or Education completed or in progress preferred
  • Minimum 5 to 7 years related Clinical experience in Clinics and Corporate Initiatives
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years related experience in teaching or leadership in a clinical/corporate setting preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, coaching, facilitation and presentation skills combined with the ability to teach in a classroom, simulation and clinical setting

  • Ability to communicates complex ideas clearly and concisely to diverse audiences, including senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Commitment to life-long learning and evidence of ongoing professional development

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment

  • Strong planning, time management, organization and coordination skills

  • Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check/vulnerable sector check
  • Provide proof of Immunization and TB records
