The Cardlock/Bulk Plant Operations Lead is responsible for the day-to-day operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of all cardlock and bulk fuel systems including; mechanical, electronic and software components. This role will also oversee new construction or upgrade projects, manage parts inventory, create and coordinate maintenance schedules, respond to fuel-related incidents and support overall facility appearance and compliance. The Operations Lead will serve as project lead, problem solver and key liaison between field operations, management and third-party vendors.
Position Responsibilities:
- Learn and support all operational aspects of cardlock and bulk plant systems (mechanical, electronic and software)
- Troubleshoot and repair dispenser systems, fuel meters, tank monitors and associated hardware
- Lead new project builds and plant upgrades, including; planning, budgeting and execution to ensure both on-time and on-budget delivery
- Prepare and manage annual Repair & Maintenance (R&M) budgets in consultation with the location and fuel managers
- Maintain and control an accurate inventory of critical parts for cardlock and dispenser systems
- Coordinate and dispatch third-party repair services as required
- Develop and implement a troubleshooting protocol for field issues, support on-call scheduling and take all incoming service calls
- Perform monthly site visits and R&M inspections to proactively identify and address system issues
- Maintain and oversee a certification trailer and conduct or support recertification of cardlocks and fuel truck meters
- Manage appearance and upkeep of unmanned cardlock sites (i.e. weed control, grading, lighting, security etc.), and incorporate into maintenance budgets
- Respond to fuel spills, dispatch appropriate cleanup crews and work with the safety manager to ensure environmental compliance
- Collaborate with IT manager for software and system upgrades or issues support
- Participate in back-office training and on-call support as part of a rotating schedule
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Mechanically inclined and able to troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical issues
- Knowledge of cardlock systems, fuel dispensers and fuel plant operations (training will be provided)
- Good organizational, planning and time management skills
- Computer proficiency and comfort working with diagnostics software and maintenance platforms
- Ability to work independently and make informed decisions under pressure
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to deal with difficult customer situations/conversations
- Budgeting experience and the ability to plan and track both project and annual expenses
- Willingness to be on call and handle emergency situations
- Willingness and ability to work in all weather conditions for extended periods
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- Education and/or practical experience as metering technician is preferred, but training will be provided for the right candidate
- Technical and mechanical training is considered and asset
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with G endorsement
- Experience in maintenance, fuel operations, or project management is preferred
- Must be able to obtain and maintain certification for fuel system inspections and re-certifications (training provided)
- Experience with coordinating vendors and contractors will be considered an asset
