Stonehenge delivers long-term, intensive residential treatment services to those whose addiction/concurrent presentations are complex. Many of our clients enter treatment directly from the Federal and Provincial correctional systems. About the Role:

The Peer Support Worker will play a vital role as a member of our multi-disciplinary teams by offering a range of practical and emotional supports from the perspective of their lived experience, and embodying a sense of hope and possibility for the future. This role will work with the Residential program to provide peer support services to residents.

Hours are scheduled from 7:30am to 3:30pm which will include some/alternating weekend work as part of a two week rotation.

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience of addiction and recovery required (mental health recovery an asset)
  • Post-secondary education in addictions, social services or related field
  • Experience providing support to individuals experiencing addiction / concurrent disorders in a community based program
  • Front line experience providing crisis management, outreach services, and community-based supports
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of services available in the Waterloo Wellington and Guelph Wellington Region preferred
  • Previous experience with justice-involved individuals an asset
  • Food Handlers Certification an asset
  • Valid G Drivers License for a minimum of 3 years (G2 or greater)
  • Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record
  • Reliable vehicle/own transportation not on a bus route
  • CSC Clearance conducted by PWGS Canada
  • Standard First Aid/CPR Level C
  • Mandatory on call duty, on a rotational basis
  • Must be able to attend work (travel to Residential Centres) within an hour of notification, when on call (where applicable)

Role Overview:

Direct Client Support

Peer Support Services:

  • Delivering support in a manner that is consistent with emerging best practice and that reflects key principles of recovery-oriented and trauma informed approaches to care
  • Engaging in purposeful and deliberate sharing of your own lived experience of addiction/mental health recovery to facilitate the development of strong, peer support connections with program participants

Program Support - Residential Services:

  • Deliver peer support services for residents in the program including:
    • Welcoming new residents on admission day and walking them through the admissions process, along with the Resident Representatives from the program
    • Ensure welcome letters for new residents are completed and placed in their dorm room for when they arrive on site
    • Build connections with residents early on in the program to ensure they are settling into the community
    • Assisting participants to develop meaningful connections to the therapeutic community, and facilitating community building with program participants
    • Facilitating weekly groups for residents newer in the program to aid in retention by normalizing residents experiences of ambivalence while new to recovery
    • Supporting program participants in achieving the wellness goals they have identified for themselves in relation to substance use, mental health, and other domains of life
    • Assisting residents to connect to local resources by providing service navigation support and appointment accompaniment where necessary, with an emphasis on securing housing post-treatment
    • Co-facilitating house meetings, psycho-educational and support groups
    • Crisis planning and intervention as required

Collaboration and Capacity Building

  • Working effectively and in collaboration with the broader Residential Services Team and other pillars within Stonehenge, as well as external community partners (i.e. CSC, SOLGEN, etc.)

Documentation and Administration

  • Fulfilling documentation requirements in alignment with Peer Competencies
  • Participating in program development activities as required including program evaluation, data collection and input, process improvement, etc.
