Reporting to the Quality Control Manager, the QA/QC Inspector is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality control and assurance in a high-paced pipe fabrication and CWB-certified welding shop. The Inspector will play a key role in implementing and monitoring quality programs, conducting inspections, and ensuring all work aligns with applicable codes, client specifications, and internal standards.
This position focuses exclusively on quality assurance and control in pressure piping and structural/welded assemblies, ensuring full compliance with CSA, ASME, and CWB standards. In addition, organizational skills are required for timely verification and documentation of inspection and test results as outlined in the Inspection and Tests plans.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Oversee all aspects of quality assurance and control in pipe fabrication and structural welding in accordance with CWB (CSA W47.1/W59) and ASME B31.1/B31.3.
- Review and interpret welding procedures, isometric drawings, and fabrication standards to ensure compliance.
- Monitor welding processes and techniques, including welder qualifications and procedure adherence.
- Conduct fit-up, in-process, and final inspections of welded pipe spools, structural components, and related assemblies.
- Identify and document nonconforming items and oversee corrective action plans.
- Maintain inspection and test records, weld maps, and traceability documentation.
- Liaise with third-party inspectors, clients, and regulatory bodies for code and contract compliance.
- Verify use and calibration of measurement and testing equipment.
- Support material receiving inspections, including verification of heat numbers, MTRs, and dimensional checks.
- Conduct internal audits and participate in external audits as required.
- Participate in NCR investigations, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective/preventive actions
Employment Requirements
- Active registration with the Canadian Welding Bureau as a Welding Inspector with CSA Standard W178.2-01
- Good communication skills
- Strong understanding of welding symbols and weld defects
- Excellent knowledge of CSA W47.1 and W59
- Hold a valid CWB W59 Inspector Level II or higher endorsement
- Basic knowledge of NDT processes
- Minimum 3 years of experience in workshop environment.
