About the opportunity

We are looking for the right person to join our dynamic and collaborative Fiber Engineering team in the role of Fiber Engineer Specialist. In this impactful role, you will have a hand in shaping the architecture of our Fiber networks. These network design projects will range significantly from simple "A to B" installations to Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) network pathways across complex urban topographies. Your role will primarily involve the design of comprehensive engineering plans for both underground and aerial network routes using AutoCAD and GIS software.

The Fiber Engineer Specialist will be integral to the attainment of our goal to provide the fastest, most reliable fiber-based services out there. This is a 9-month fixed-term contract.

Job Duties

  • Contributing to the full design of our outside plant fiber optic networks.
  • Maintaining our various fiber plants in our GIS-based fiber maintenance system
  • Design fiber routes, fiber allocation and splicing information for different types of projects, including: Backbone, FTTH, FTTN & Ethernet customers.
  • Using engineering techniques and specifications, helping to create, maintain, or improve final production-ready construction design for both internal and external use.
  • Preparing drawings, sketches and other graphic representations of engineering plans using computer-aided design (AUTOCAD) software.
  • Developing and defining optimal routes using various types of construction, and different fiber installation methods (i.e. pull fiber, blown fiber, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • General knowledge of FTTH networks and familiarity with aggregation/XGS PON
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to develop strong relationships throughout the organization
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, self-directed, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Experience with GIS software is a plus.
  • Wide knowledge of fiber networks is required.
  • Willingness to occasionally travel within North America will be required.

Qualifications Required

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field is required.
  • 3+ years of experience in similar role is an asset
  • 3+ Experience with AutoCAD is required.
  • Telecom Network Experience is required

The base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $85,000. Range shown in $CAD for Canadian residents. Other countries will differ. Range may vary on a number of factors including, but not limited to: location, experience and qualifications.
