Job DescriptionABOUT OUR CLIENT Our client is a leader in the Lower Mainland when it comes to civil utility work and excavation servicing municipalities, districts, developers and private utility owners.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY This is an opportunity to join a growing company as a Superintendent overseeing multiple projects throughout the Lower Mainland and mentoring Foreman, pipelayers and machine operators at the same time.
ABOUT THE POSITION Your duties in this role will include the following:
Site Management & Operations
  • Oversee daily site operations, including worker scheduling, equipment and material deliveries, and progress tracking.
  • Drive production and manage the achievement of daily deliverables.
  • Maintain a strong on-site presence and support project execution with hands-on field knowledge.
  • Plan construction processes and collaborate with contractors to coordinate required work activities.
  • Delegate and manage daily tasks assigned to field team members.
  • Keep track of material inventory, rentals, and orders; monitor tool, equipment, and material usage on-site.
  • Monitor and track project progress while proactively identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to report work progress, crew performance, safety metrics, and schedule variances.
Leadership & Supervision
  • Lead by example to foster strong working relationships and team cohesion on-site.
  • Supervise site crews and provide clear, constructive feedback to ensure high performance.
  • Coach and mentor Forepersons on safety, productivity, quality, and scheduling expectations.
  • Ensure Forepersons understand and execute the daily plan effectively.
  • Participate in annual performance reviews of Forepersons.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and enforce the implementation of all Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct and participate in safety inspections and incident investigations.
  • Monitor Forepersons' responsibilities in conducting Daily Toolbox Talks.
  • Ensure site adherence to quality and safety guidelines.
Communication & Coordination
  • Collaborate with operations management to assess subcontractor and staffing requirements.
  • Assist in coordinating subcontractors and attend subcontractor meetings.
  • Help monitor construction work schedules, including short-term (look-ahead) planning.
  • Address and resolve on-site issues, disputes, and emergencies promptly.
  • Manage communication related to on-site disturbances and crew matters.
Administrative & Budget Oversight
  • Understand project budgets and seek opportunities to control costs while maintaining safety and quality.
  • Support HR and operations teams in hiring, performance management, and employee relations.
  • Ensure Forepersons submit accurate daily reports, worker timesheets, and equipment logs.
  • Monitor Forepersons' follow-up on material requisitions submitted by Project Managers.
THE REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years with civil utility experience as a Superintendent
  • Strong, clean safety record
  • Experience working on a range of deep and shallow utilities
  • Proficient using SiteMax and Bluebeam
COMPENSATION
  • $125,000 - $165,000 depending on experience
  • Truck and gas card
  • 100% health and dental coverage paid by employer.
