Job Title: Junior Planner Job ID: PL40229277Location: North Vancouver, BCOverview:The Planner I supports the Planning team in specific areas of production planning. The Planner I in Design Build creates capacity and movement plans for the Project and Production management teams. The role is responsible for planning and performing analysis in support of program build strategy development. This includes creating and schedule standard Blocks, Modules and Grand blocks through the available capacity of the shops and major equipment. Additionally, the incumbent in this role participates in new construction design projects in the areas of ship design and shipbuilding and in analysis of dimensional and accuracy control of new materials.What you will be doing:
  • Creates production plans (capacity and movement plans). Plans and performs analysis in support of program build strategy development.
  • Prepares standard Block, Modules and Grand blocks durations and labour requirements to be used on future project planning and new business development.
  • Produces movement plans in line with the major moves of Blocks, Grand Blocks, and Modules within the buildings and between the buildings and stages of construction.
  • Liaises with the lifting and turning team to ensure that the amount of steelwork and early outfit can be moved and turned as required in line with the plan.
  • Liaises with Estimating department to ensure that the current budget allocated by Blocks, Grand Blocks and Modules is in line with the perceived breakdown from the Detail Planning department.
  • Creates and maintains the Production Bill of Material (PBOM).
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
What you must have:
  • Diploma or Technical certification in Trades or Engineering, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree is desirable.
  • 0-2 years of experience in planning and production control (shipbuilding industry is preferred).
  • Experience in utilizing ERP software tools for material and inventory planning (IFS is preferred).
  • Knowledge of modern ship design and production processes
  • Understanding of shipbuilding strategy concepts, manufacturing processes and techniques.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of planning, scheduling and resource management.
  • Technical skills with ability to read blueprint.
  • Organizational skills and ability to maintain organized under pressure and in changing environment.
  • Knowledge of Ship Constructor and AutoCAD software, document control systems and databases.
  • Ability to develop workups for budget distribution.
  • Attention to details while keeping big-picture goals in mind.
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills to gather and interpret relevant information.
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Project, Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Time management skills and ability to work on several issues simultaneously.
  • Ability to independently develop schedules.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to explain rules and procedures clearly.
