Are you a passionate urban planner dedicated to shaping vibrant, inclusive community spaces and creating innovative housing solutions? The City of Edmonton is seeking an Open Space Planner II to join our Urban Growth & Open Space team. In this role, you will lead high-impact planning projects that directly support long-term affordable housing initiatives while preserving vital community park spaces. As an Open Space Planner II, you will play a central role in delivering city-wide policy and land-use frameworks. A primary focus of this role involves leading work under the federal Housing Accelerator Fund (HAF) "Co-locating on Community-based Assets" initiative. You will evaluate the residential redevelopment potential of community-licensed lands while balancing park functionality, equity, and long-term community needs. Working with cross-functional project teams and external consultants, you will guide site reviews and ensure project milestones are successfully met. This dynamic position bridges open space planning with housing strategy, helping shape the future of Edmonton’s urban landscape. What will you do? - Oversee and coordinate land-use planning and administrative workflows to evaluate potential residential redevelopment sites - Serve as a key lead in managing external consulting teams and internal project teams across policy, housing, open space, architecture, and engineering - Conduct technical land-use analyses at the intersection of open spaces, community assets, and residential infill - Review proposals against the Municipal Government Act, Zoning Bylaw, City Plan, and relevant structure plans - Facilitate targeted engagement with groups such as the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL), housing providers, and internal collaborators - Prepare clear technical summaries, reports, and briefings for leadership, working groups, and City Council - Provide expert input on open space planning, active transportation, and environmental considerations for corporate policies and plans
