Overview

Join AtkinsRéalis and play a critical role in supporting safe and efficient rail operations within the Walkley Yard and Trillium Line Maintenance and Storage Facility (MSF). As part of the rail operations team, you will oversee rail vehicle movements, monitor critical operating systems, coordinate with operational stakeholders, and help maintain the highest standards of safety, performance, and service reliability.

Your Role
  • Control and direct all personnel, rail vehicles, maintenance vehicles, and track access activities within the MSF and yard limits to ensure safe operations and compliance with operating rules and safety‑critical procedures.
  • Operate and monitor S&TCS, SCADA, yard control systems, Siemens dispatch systems, CCTV, and other computer‑based control systems to manage train movements, switches, maintenance equipment, and station elements.
  • Coordinate train dispatching, vehicle launches into service, service removals, track authorities, work zones, and access requests while maintaining continuous communication with the TOCC, DROs, and field personnel.
  • Monitor incidents, delays, vehicle failures, safety or security events, system alarms, and fault conditions; coordinate responses, support service recovery, and maintain established schedules.
  • Provide functional leadership and operational support to Vehicle Technicians by establishing priorities, assigning work in collaboration with supervision, participating in performance reviews, and supporting operational decision‑making.
  • Complete operational reporting, incident tracking, investigations, safety occurrence reporting, database updates, and technical issue follow‑up while supporting safety procedure development and emergency response activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by participating in operational reviews, providing technical expertise, recommending best practices, and representing TransitNext on relevant work teams.

About You
  • High School Diploma with a two‑year community college diploma in a technical, electrical or computer program or related field. Industry specific experience will be considered in lieu of the latter, combined with six years' experience in Canadian rail regulations, rail operations, transportation control, dispatching, incident/emergency management, or a combination of these areas.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a high‑volume, high‑demand operational environment, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while directing train movements.
  • Proficiency in computer and communications technology, with the ability to analyze information, make independent decisions under pressure, and maintain a high level of attention to detail for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, build trusted relationships, work collaboratively as part of a team, and demonstrate leadership capabilities.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a 24/7 operation, including overtime and on‑call assignments as required.

Note: This is a safety‑critical position. Fitness for duty is a requirement of the role. As part of the recruitment process, candidates must successfully complete a medical assessment, including colour perception, visual acuity, hearing, and impairment screening.
