Job Description

WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

Are you a creative, results-driven professional passionate about delivering high-performing applications? Join our collaborative and innovative team, where your ideas and contributions are valued.

Global Functions Technology (GFT) is part of RBC's Technology and Operations division. GFT's impact is far-reaching as we collaborate with partners from across the company to deliver innovative and transformative IT solutions. Our clients represent Risk, Finance, HR, CAO, Audit, Legal, Compliance, Financial Crime, Capital Markets, Personal and Commercial Banking and Wealth Management. We also lead the development of digital tools and platforms to enhance collaboration. GFT is known for fostering a culture of innovation, inclusivity, and collaboration. Our team values learning, mentorship, and collaboration, creating an environment where you can thrive personally and professionally.

The role is part of Market and Counterparty Credit Risk within GFT, focusing on rapid prototyping and building innovative AI solutions in risk management business area. You will play a key role in shaping MCCR's next-generation Agentic platform.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

  • Design and develop enterprise-grade internal web applications end-to-end — from React/TypeScript front-ends to Python/FastAPI back-ends and PostgreSQL databases — modernizing model risk management workflows for 500+ users across the organization.
  • Build scalable, data-rich user interfaces — including multi-step form wizards, governance dashboards, document management portals, and self-service reporting tools — while ensuring a polished, intuitive user experience.
  • Collaborate extensively with Governance, Audit, Risk, and business stakeholders to translate complex regulatory and operational requirements into production-ready application features with quick delivery timelines.
  • Architect and deliver full-stack solutions across the entire application layer, with the ability to strengthen the team's front-end capabilities while contributing meaningfully to backend services and data layer.
  • Lead the creation of architecture blueprints, design documents, and technical artifacts, while evaluating and implementing emerging technologies to keep the platform modern and scalable.
  • Manage and mentor a small team of backend developers (~30% of your time) conducting code reviews, 1:1s, sprint planning, and performance coaching while fostering a culture of technical quality and fast delivery.
  • Drive technical decisions on complex issues including application architecture, API design, database schema evolution, and CI/CD optimization, developing clear recommendations that align cross-functional teams.
  • Champion the introduction of AI-powered capabilities into the platform — including intelligent document analysis, semantic search, and LLM-assisted workflows — as the product roadmap evolves.
  • Ensure application quality, scalability, and security through robust testing strategies, performance optimization, observability, and adherence to enterprise standards.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?

Must have:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
  • 7+ years of professional full-stack software development experience
  • Strong proficiency in React (v18/19), TypeScript, and modern front-end ecosystem (hooks, context, custom hooks, performance optimization, code splitting)
  • Experience with TailwindCSS, headless component libraries (Radix UI, shadcn/ui), and building data-rich UIs (TanStack Table, Recharts, complex form wizards)
  • Strong proficiency in Python (FastAPI or Flask), PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy ORM, and RESTful API design with Pydantic validation
  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes/OpenShift (OCP), and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions or equivalent)
  • Experience with SSO/OIDC authentication integration (Azure AD/MSAL) and role-based access control implementation
  • Proven track record of mentoring or managing small development teams (3–5 developers), including code reviews, technical guidance, and performance feedback
  • Strong product mindset — ability to prioritize ruthlessly, deliver iteratively, and ship production features on tight timelines in an agile environment
  • Experience building enterprise-scale applications with 500+ concurrent users, with attention to scalability, reliability, and security
  • Excellent communication skills — technical writing, architecture documentation, and stakeholder presentations

Nice to Have:

  • Experience integrating LLM/AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, AWS Bedrock) or building RAG-based features into web applications
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, Elasticsearch, Redis, or Kafka/event-driven architectures
  • Proficiency with Storybook, design systems, or accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1)
  • Knowledge of data engineering concepts — CDC pipelines, star schema design, ETL/ELT patterns

WHAT'S IN IT FOR YOU?

We thrive on the challenge to be our best, progressive thinking to keep growing, and working together to deliver trusted advice to help our clients thrive and communities prosper. We care about each other, reaching our potential, making a difference to our communities, and achieving success that is mutual.

  • A comprehensive Total Rewards Program including bonuses and flexible benefits, competitive compensation, commissions, and stock where applicable

  • Leaders who support your development through coaching and managing opportunities

  • Ability to make a difference and lasting impact

  • Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team

  • A world-class training program in financial services

  • Flexible work/life balance options
