Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Shift:
- Work Days: Tues-Fri 0700-1700
- Off Days: Sat-Mon
What will I be doing?
- Operating, repairing and maintaining equipment, systems, and structures including activating and deactivating power supply to equipment at GO Transit facilities, including maintenance, passenger, bus and rail.
- Preparing records for the Supervisor relative to inspections, work accomplished, deficiencies noted, vehicle, equipment and material usage.
- Operating and maintaining assigned vehicles, equipment and tools safely in a clean and serviceable condition and keeping logs relative to their serviceability.
- Monitoring the operation of on-site contractors as generally instructed and referring any problems to the Supervisor.
- Identify parts, components and materials required for repairs and provide specifications for their purchase.
- Providing guidance to, new Plant Mechanics, and Plant Servicepersons assigned to assist in maintenance and repairs of equipment, systems and various other facility repairs.
- Carrying out emergency measures resulting from environmental or other accidents.
- Performs snow and ice control services, utilizing de-icers, snow removal tools, equipment and materials. Guides the work of other staff and contractors when assigned to do so.
- Receiving and verifying the delivery of various materials and supplies.
- With prior supervisor’s approval, purchases parts, components and materials relative to facility requirements.
- Performs other related duties as may be assigned.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Knowledge of industrial maintenance normally attained through completion of courses related to certification as an Industrial Mechanic. Must have a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s licence and must meet corporate standard for a good driving record. Ability to operate forklift personnel lifts (scissor or telescopic) and/or other similar equipment. Must be able to obtain GO Transit Equipment Operator’s Permit. Must be able to obtain and maintain First Aid Certification. Completion of community college level course on welding. Must successfully complete environmental, safety and any other training required by corporate policy.
- Minimum of two years experience involving the operation and specialized maintenance of large facilities and of the associated equipment supporting heavy rail and bus repair including experience in gas cutting, soldering, brazing, gas and arc welding, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Must have a working knowledge of pertinent environmental regulations, codes and health and safety regulations. Good oral and written communication skills.
- Uses judgement when providing guidance to other employees deciding on type of maintenance to be provided, establishing priorities. Other problems would be referred to Supervisor.
- Incumbents carry out maintenance tasks and repairs/trouble shooting under minimal supervision. Initiative is required in correcting or reporting deficiencies.
- Errors in repair or maintenance could cause hazards resulting in injuries, malfunctioning equipment, time loss and loss of revenue.
- Required to lift heavy equipment regularly. Exposed to variable weather conditions, noise, dirt, heat and fumes on a regular basis. Occasionally required to work in confined spaces using safety apparatus. May be required to work outside regular shifts and may be required to be on call.
- Communicates with counterparts in maintenance to share information. Other employees to provide information when performing maintenance services.
- Communicates with general contractors on a regular basis for incidental guidance or exchange of information. Occasional interaction with outside agencies or Ministries with respect to areas of responsibility in the position mandate. Suppliers and manufacturers on a regular basis for obtaining information. GO customers and the general public to respond to questions.
