Carpenters work with a variety of hand and power tools to build frameworks, doors, windows, staircases, furniture, and other structures, both interior and exterior. They may also perform finishing work such as trimming, molding, and cabinetry installation. This position requires strong problem-solving skills, spatial awareness, and a commitment to craftsmanship and safety on every project.
Key Responsibilities:Daily duties will depend on experience and apprenticeship level, but generally include:
- General carpentry: framing, hoarding, doors and frames, concrete, steel stud construction, plywood back requirements.
- Reading blueprints.
- Understand elevations for buildings and parking lots.
- Performing layouts, measurements, and calculating volumes.
- Working from heights which includes elevated work platforms, ladders, and roofs.
- Working in tandem with trades to complete projects safely and efficiently.
- Proper use of tools, equipment and company resources to manage assigned tasks on site.
- Ensuring project sites are kept safe, clean, and organized.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
- Journeyman status in carpentry or working towards this as a registered apprentice. Red seal preferred but not required, experience in the field only will be reviewed.
- A demonstrated understanding of construction means and methods.
- 1-5 years previous experience in commercial and industrial construction required.
- General construction safety knowledge.
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and ability to commute to various locations is required.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
- Physically fit to meet the requirements of the responsibilities, walking long distances required.
- Ability to read and comprehends blueprints.
- Valid CSTS, WHMIS, First Aid Certifications, Fall Arrest, and Lift Equipment courses an asset. Company will provide training.
- Candidate must supply own hand tools and steel toed footwear. Hard hat and safety gear will be provided.
- Criminal Background check required.
- Vision - Near and far vision. Some work activities involve the monitoring of processes, objects or situations in the work environment that are far from the worker. Other work activities are performed near the worker.
- Hearing - Verbal interaction. Work activities involve communication with colleagues on a regular basis.
- Body position - Work activities involve combinations and varying degrees of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling and crouching.
- Limb coordination - Multiple limb coordination. Work activities are carried out by coordinating the movements of upper limbs simultaneously with lower limbs.
- Strength – High. Work activities involve handling load of 10lb but less than 50lb.
- Environment – Primarily outdoors, in all weather conditions.
- Height – Ability to work at high levels on ladders, scaffolding and climb stairs.
