Senior Director, Regulatory & Scientific Affairs

The Impact You'll Make:
The Senior Director, Regulatory and Scientific Affairs for Loblaw Brands, is a pivotal leader responsible for shaping and executing the scientific and regulatory strategy for Loblaw's private label products across all categories (food and non-food – natural health products, OTCs, medical devices, cosmetics, and personal care). This role drives scientific excellence, regulatory foresight, and enables innovation to accelerate product development, amplify brand trust, and secure a sustainable competitive advantage in the Canadian market. This role leads a high-performing team, fosters critical external partnerships, and ensures the highest standards of compliance and customer-centricity.
What You'll Do:
I. Scientific Leadership
- Leverage scientific expertise & evidence to pioneer innovative solutions that fuel breakthrough innovation and power strategic initiatives to amplify our brands.
- Elevate brand trust and customer-centricity through evidence-based claims and storytelling.
- Enhance strategic partnerships that expand capabilities, accelerate breakthrough innovation, and unlock market leadership opportunities.
- Shape the future of food by enabling emerging novel foods and disruptive technical solutions (e.g., Precision fermentation, Cellular agriculture, Next-gen plant-based proteins, Bioactive & functional ingredients) to stretch the boundaries of innovation.
II. Regulatory Excellence & Advocacy
- Lead in regulatory expertise to drive innovative solutions to amplify our brands and drive a competitive advantage.
- Actively engage with regulatory bodies and industry associations to drive & influence Canada’s regulatory reform.
- Ensure regulatory readiness-focused plans for all active food and non-food regulatory files impacting Loblaw Brands.
- Lead the technical implementation of regulatory & strategic initiatives.
III. Risk Management & Brand Integrity
- Implement robust risk assessment frameworks and leverage foresight to anticipate, identify, and impactfully safeguard regulatory risk.
- Optimize risk mitigation through robust science-backed claim substantiation.
- Provide proactive guidance, expert interpretation, and robust review to ensure compliant, customer-centric claims, labeling, and marketing campaigns, elevating customer trust.
- Enhance processes to drive speed to market, consistency, and compliance throughout artwork and marketing campaign development processes.

What You'll Bring:
- Master's of Food Science, Nutrition, Regulatory Affairs, or a related scientific discipline.
- Minimum 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Regulatory Affairs and Scientific Affairs, or a related field within the food or consumer packaged goods (CPG) industries.
- Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific and regulatory information into actionable business strategies.
- Demonstrable experience in leading and developing high-performing teams, fostering a culture of innovation and scientific rigor.
- Extensive knowledge of the Canadian regulatory environment.
- Proven track record of successful stakeholder engagement with regulatory bodies (e.g., Health Canada, CFIA) and industry associations.
- Exceptional communications, influencing, and presentation skills.

Hiring Range / Échelle salariale à l’embauche :
