JOB DESCRIPTION
The Reliability Technologist can design, improve, and plan maintenance and reliability projects needed for repairs and improvements ensuring they meet specification and regulatory requirements. In this position the specialist will provide technical support and lead projects and tasks supporting the Maintenance & Reliability Department daily activities ensuring equipment reliability requirements are fulfilled. The Role will be responsible to analyse business trends, manage assigned task and project budgets, develop custom reporting and identify opportunities and recommend changes to improve reliability and cost savings. An engineering technologist can be an asset in supporting electricians, mechanics, and staff in the field as a specialist for technical subjects where we lack expertise such as instrumentation, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and robotics. This type of support will help our business by reducing our dependence on contractors and third-party consultants.
This staff position is based at the Halifax Shipyard and reports to the Manager, Reliability. This position supports the vision, initiatives and strategy of the Facilities and Maintenance team at Irving Shipbuilding, providing support to Production and operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure ISI critical production equipment meets applicable codes, standards, and regulations.
- Research and analyze new equipment and methods seeking to support the increased productivity of the critical production equipment.
- Manage projects to ensure successful project cost, schedule and safety through project initiation, execution, completion, as well as overseeing project design activities and field construction, and project budget.
- Develop and implement project safety, and quality management plans to ensure projects are completed safely, meet or exceed quality requirements, and regulatory compliance for all activities.
- Develop and implement maintenance and reliability improvements and control plans with business process owners and stakeholders ensuring they meet requirements, schedule and cost.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Recognized Engineering Technologist Certification in Instrumentation, Programmable Logic Controllers, Robotics, Hydraulics, and/or HVAC.
- 2 to 4 years field experience in heavy industry.
- Courses in data visualization such as Tableau and Power BI.
- Proven Instrumentation, Programmable Logic Controllers, Robotics, Hydraulics, or HVAC skills.
- Proven troubleshooting skills for electrical and mechanical equipment and systems.
- Configuration and programming skills in data visualization.
- SQL database skills.
- Computer Maintenance Management Software (CMMS) skills.
- Ability to work independently and with multi-disciplined teams.
- Managing multiple priorities, projects, and assignments simultaneously.
- Strong communication and networking Skills, with a history of proven negotiation capabilities.
- Demonstrated capabilities to troubleshoot and problem solve in a fast-paced environment.
Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
