JOB DESCRIPTION
The Engineer, Production Norms designs and plans processes, tools, and equipment needed for high quality, efficient planning, construction, repair, testing/commissioning, and delivery of ships. An Engineer may influence others within the job area through explanation of facts, policies, and practices. They will be expected to work in an assigned job scope in theoretical, practical, and/or lean engineering disciplines in a shipbuilding environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and improve norms calculator(s) related to hull structure and steel outfitting
  • Support review and develop new norms as needed
  • Monitor production activities and develop time studies in support of norms refinement and process development
  • Support development of structural steel production processes and associated work instructions to drive efficiencies
  • Provide training and support to Planning customers on the use of norm calculation tools
  • Host engagement sessions with Production stakeholders on review of baseline norms and calculator outputs

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.) or equivalent, Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) or equivalent. Alternative educational background may be considered with appropriate work experience.
  • Applied experience with exposure to hull structure and / or steel outfitting.
  • Understanding of scheduling, ability to adhere to strict deadlines, manage & develop schedules
  • Understanding of Shipbuilding production, planning, material requirements, facility / resource capacity.
  • Some exposure to or interest in marine field through work experience (e.g. co-op) or academic study
