Vice President, Head of Credit Risk Management

Reporting to the Regional Chief Risk Officer, this role will be responsible for directing and controlling the Bank's credit risk function in the Cayman Islands and The Bahamas.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • managing the credit risks of the Bank by maintaining Group standards and providing advice and guidance on policies, strategies, guidelines and processes
  • developing strategic objectives, budgets and plans for the credit risk function and monitoringthe Department's goals against performance
  • acting as a Mentor and ensuring development opportunities are available for the Department
  • monitoring the Credit portfolio for quality and profitability within the Bank's risk profile
  • reviewing credit proposals within delegated approval limits as presented internally by the Personal and Corporate Lending Departments
  • developing strong working relationships with Lending Officers to ensure that all viable credit proposals are being referred and that credit risk principals are understood
  • participating as a member of the Cayman Credit Committee and other management and strategic steering committees
  • preparing credit proposals for presentation to the Cayman Credit Committee or Group Credit Committee. Liaising as necessary and maintaining strong working relationship with the Group Credit Risk Management
  • making regular presentations to the Board on individual loans and overall credit quality
  • formulating general collection strategies and managing problem loan work-outs
  • overseeing the design and production of relevant credit reporting data
  • responsibility for reviewing independent loan review reports and implementing corrective action
  • maintaining satisfactory and above ratings for internal / external audits and regulatory credit inspections
  • maintaining excellent community relations in order to uphold the Bank's visibility and community standing
  • keeping abreast of local and international economic, financial, political and legislative events and trends that may impact the credit environment

About the team

Butterfield's Credit Risk Management Department is a dynamic environment, engaged in every facet of the Bank's lending practices and operations. The team manages the credit risk associated with the Bank's business activities, maintaining a framework of credit policies and guidelines to ensure that credit decisions are sound and credit risk exposure is kept within proper and acceptable risk parameters.

Your qualifications and skills include:

  • university degree and/or professional banking qualification; an advanced degree (e.g. MBA) and/or professional accounting designation would be an asset
  • at least 10 years banking experience with a minimum of seven years relevant Credit Risk Management experience at a senior level with a proven track record
  • specialist knowledge in risk analysis, loan and security documentation and loan evaluation for retail and commercial lending
  • in-depth knowledge of the Basel II Accord and relevant reporting requirements
  • proven team management, development and leadership skills
  • superior communication, negotiation, organisation, presentation and interpersonal skills

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $230,000.00-$265,000.00 per year
