Job Title: Fire Protection Designer

Who is Peach Fire Consulting?

We are a small family owned and operated fire protection consulting firm specializing in complete design solutions for fire protection systems. With our roots originating in Newfoundland, our operations are now based out of St. Thomas, Ontario.

Our clients include architects, consultants, developers, and fire protection contractors, whose projects consist of a variety of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Whether the project consists of a one sprinkler head relocate, or a complete design solution for a 40-storey building, we strive to deliver a premium consulting service based on Design Excellence, Engineered Efficiency, and Timely Service.

Although we are quite busy year-round, through our flexible work schedule, we ensure family time and mental health remains our top priority. If this non-traditional work culture and the details provided below are of interest, and you are a fire protection professional, we'd love to hear from you!

Who we are searching for:

We are looking to add experienced Fire Protection Designers to our work family. With support from our existing team, you will work primarily from our remote office in the Marystown area, while also assisting operations as required by conducting periodic site surveys and field inspections at ongoing projects across Ontario. Note that as a result, this role will require occasional travel from Newfoundland to our head office in St. Thomas, ON both for work and training.

What you will work on:

Using HydraCAD (for AutoCAD and / or Revit) and HydraCALC, you will design fire protection systems per project and code requirements, along with company and industry standards.
You will attend virtual coordination meetings as required by each specific project and communicate project status and design challenges to all project stakeholders.
You will complete Fire Safety Plans per company and industry standards
You may periodically conduct pre-design site surveys to both gather information and examine the condition of existing systems for design specifications, drawings, and calculations.
You may periodically conduct installation inspections of both in-progress and completed projects to ensure conformance with project and code requirements, as well as company and industry standards.
Depending on your experience and current abilities, you will be tasked with other duties as appropriate.

What you need to bring:

A minimum 3 years of experience in fire protection design.
A technical education (diploma or degree) in fire protection, or a discipline related to fire protection (mechanical, construction, or architectural).
An equivalent combination of education and technical experience may be acceptable (situation dependant)
A knowledge and understanding of NFPA 13, NFPA 13R, NFPA 13D, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, as well as the NBC / OBC and NFC / OFC.
An ability to read and interpret technical documents from all construction disciplines.
Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and / or Revit as well as HydraCAD and HydraCALC, Microsoft Office, Google Drive / Sheets, and Bluebeam.
A proven ability to prioritize, problem solve, be organized, and communicate clearly in a dynamic working environment.
A proven ability to work successfully in both a remote and team environment; the fire protection industry is fast paced, therefore the ability to meet deadlines working remotely is critical.
A valid drivers license.

The following items are not required, but are strong assets:

The ability to design fire protection projects in Revit.
The ability to become registered as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario and other provinces as required.
Previous experience as a manager or supervisor.
