Sointula Lodge is a luxury, all-inclusive fishing and eco-tourism resort located on Malcolm Island BC, just a 10 Minute drive from the quiet fishing town of Sointula BC, and only a 30-minute ferry from Port McNeill on Northern Vancouver Island.

At Sointula Lodge we understand our greatest asset is our staff. Ideal candidates are hardworking and experienced chefs with good, easy-going attitudes. Our season runs from early June through to early September.
Sointula Lodge hosts approximately 18 guests at a time for 4 and 5 day fishing, relaxation, and incredible service and dining experiences. Our chefs are responsible for food orders, preparation, serving and clean up of all meals for guests and staff daily, as well as kitchen cleaning. Chefs also prep and serve food on our burger boat and beach bistro for each group of guests.
Requirements:
Chefs must be professionally committed to excellence and are passionate about preparation, presentation and execution of all culinary activities
Comfortable and competent ordering, building menus, working with, and preparing west-coast inspired, unique, and creative cuisine
Preparing fresh-caught seafood
Comfortable living on site in a remote area for the duration of the season.
An engaging work attitude
Responsibilities and Duties:
Share responsibility, and work with the other chefs for all aspects of food service to our guests, owners and staff.
prepare and execute 4-course dinners each night.
Responsible for preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner each day for 18 guests, the lodge owners, and 13 staff.
Participates pre and post season with other chefs and suppliers to decide menu which is repeated with each group of guests every four days.
Participates in the Beach Bistro (lunch on a remote beach with guests) and our Burger Boat, delivering food to our guests on our fishing boats.
Nightly prepares appetizers for deck time, then serves a fine dining set menu to our guests in our lodge dining room.
Ensure the highest level of service by exceeding guest expectations.
Manage set menu, ordering and inventory.
Maintain a clean, organized, safe, hazard-free work environment
Ensure Food Safe procedures are followed maintain good working relationships with suppliers
Qualifications and Skills:
Must be flexible and have a great attitude. Must be hardworking, fun, energetic and friendly.
Red Seal Certificate or equivalent (red-seal.ca)
FOODSAFE certification required
Experience working in a fine dining resturant
Post-secondary education in culinary arts
5-8 years restaurant cooking experience
Previous lodge or Resort experience is beneficial
Working Conditions:
Works in our newly renovated kitchen.
Physical Requirements:
Live remotely for three months on a small island off Northern Vancouver Island at a luxury fishing resort.
Must be comfortable with isolation for the summer, living and interacting with the same group of staff for three months.
Must be comfortable on boats.
May work early hours for breakfast shift.
Works 7 days a week from mid-June to October 1, 2025.
Frequent lifting and carrying up to 22 kilos+
Kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting
Weekly ascending and descending a boat dock ramp, advising and assisting in the food pickup and delivery.
