Company Description

Members of Parliament are individual employers responsible for recruiting, hiring, and managing employees to assist them in their parliamentary functions.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Parliamentary Assistant, located in Ottawa, ON. The Parliamentary Assistant will be responsible for assisting with legislative and policy research, committee preparation and attendance, managing and drafting constituent correspondence, social media and other communications, scheduling, travel arrangements, expense reporting, support with petitions, PMBs, OPQs, and ATIPs, and any other functions as assigned by the Member.

Qualifications

  • Written and verbal communication skills, including press releases, correspondence, and speech writing (samples of written materials may be requested)
  • Administrative and organizational abilities
  • Research skill, and ability to utilize parliamentary research-related resources
  • Strong professional judgement in a high-pressure and public environment
  • Previous experience in a legislative or political role is a plus
  • Experience and knowledge respecting the Member's constituency is a plus

Compensation

  • Compensation with will be commensurate with skill and experience, and will be set in accordance with applicable House of Commons requirements
