Quanta Canada Renewables is a new entity within the Quanta family of companies, dedicated to providing the premier turnkey solutions for the full engineering and construction of utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects in Canada. As a Construction Materials Manager, you will be able to shape the development of a new organization and its processes and procedures while leveraging industry-leading best practices, decades of expertise, and the support of the largest utility contractor in North America to support the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future for Canada.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Construction Materials Manager plans, organizes, directs, and controls the activities of all materials at the solar or wind energy project site. This role will supervise the QCR Construction Material Coordinators of these projects to ensure that the highest standards are achieved and maintained in accordance with established procedures.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Project Planning & Management

·Provides insight and supports the planning of laydown yard, satellite laydown yards, material deliveries, schedule of work, material deliveries to QCR teams and subcontractors, and materials unloaded and inspected by others.

·Reviews and approves all work procedures for identified renewable projects with a focus on driving continuous improvement through the application of Lean principles

·Ensures optimal relations among all project stakeholders (clients, design teams, field construction teams, subcontractors, and suppliers)

· Investigates and resolves complex problems related to work planning and project execution by offering solutions with implementation plans, leading to improved processes

· Implement procedures and reporting for the effective management of inventory

2. Field Supervision & Management

· Provides oversight of support team to ensure teams have the necessary materials as per specifications for use in an efficient manner and timely

· Manages integrated teams from project inception through completion with a "team first" mentality

· Monitor and maintain inventory levels for materials on-site as received, issued, used, and disposed of through material management software

· Ensures that all work procedures are followed through on each Solar and Wind project and proactively develops subordinates to fulfill these requirements

· Ensure all materials received are received accurately and in accordance with bills of laden

· Produce monthly reports for internal team and provide backup documents for invoicing to clients

· Cost control and coding of materials to maintain the integrity of the data in reports to support project team

· Maintain data systems for inventory control and management while effectively resolves potential disputes

· Cultivate responsive and engaged material management teams who actively live out the Quanta Values in a manner that respects, includes, and supports all stakeholders associated with projects, by delivering industry-leading material management practices

· Incorporate Lean principles and drive continuous improvement

3. Customer Service & Coordination

· Coordinate material on site and collaborate with construction manager, site superintendents and subcontractors

· Monitor (track) material orders thru procurement, delivery, storage and distribution to project sites with project accountant

· Managing material vendors and other third parties

· Interface with project construction management teams to establish workflow including release dates and locations for materials

· Assist Quality representatives with handling of rejected or damaged materials with vendors or subcontractors

SKILLS:

  • Very effective planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with the multi-disciplinary teams
  • Possess strong attention to detail and ability to maintain data integrity
  • Strong people relationship and team-building skills
  • Self-starter with superior problem evaluation/solving skills
  • Strong understanding of project design, scheduling and integrated EPC process
  • Solid understanding of construction drawings and specifications
  • High level of computer skills (Microsoft Office applications) with material management software a plus
  • Strong knowledge of safety, quality and environmental best practices employed by the power industry

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School/GED required; Bachelor/Associates degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or Manufacturing preferred
  • Previous experience performing supply chain and/or material management activities within construction, contracting, and projects in the Power Generation/Renewable industry a positive
  • Must hold an understanding in various aspects of engineering design and construction, and contracting methodologies, as well as project planning and management-related tasks and activities including, but not limited to, engineering, estimating, scheduling, bidding, project management and administration, preparation and administration of purchase orders and subcontracts, field supervision, budget control, safety, quality assurance, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities: The individual will be responsible for the safety, performance, and quality assurance of a limited number of employees at a given time, plus certain subcontractors contacts.

Location: The Construction Material Manager is responsible for the supervision of all field material management operations on assigned project.
