Quanta Canada Renewables is a new entity within the Quanta family of companies, dedicated to providing the premier turnkey solutions for the full engineering and construction of utility-scale wind, solar, and energy storage projects in Canada. As a General Superintendent, you will be able to shape the development of a new organization and its processes and procedures while leveraging industry-leading best practices, decades of expertise, and the support of the largest utility contractor in North America to support the transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future for Canada.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The General Superintendent plans, organizes, directs, and controls the activities of all field operations of Quanta Canada Renewables as they relate to both Wind and Solar projects. This role will supervise the QCR Project Superintendent(s) and QCR field management of these projects to ensure that the highest standards are achieved and maintained in accordance with established procedures. The General Superintendent will leverage established processes, tools, and Lean best practices from the Quanta Renewable Energy Platform (QREP) to deliver consistency, quality, and productivity to ultimately drive profitability for all QCR projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1.Project Planning & Management

•Ensures optimal relations among all project stakeholders (clients, design teams, field construction teams, subcontractors, and suppliers)

•Reviews and approves all work procedures for identified renewable projects with a focus on driving continuous improvement through the application of Lean principles

•Investigates and resolves complex problems related to work planning and project execution by offering solutions with implementation plans, leading to improved processes

•Provides insight and supports the planning of initial budgets, project estimates, schedules, resource utilization plans, and other pre-construction activities

•Develops and recommends operations policy within QPC

2.Field Supervision & Management

•Provides oversight of all field operations to ensure compliance with project-specific health and safety plans and project-specific quality control and quality assurance plans

•Manages integrated teams from project inception through completion with a "team first" mentality and functions as a technical advisor regarding tasks, projects, and operations

•Ensures that all work procedures are followed through on each Solar and Wind project and proactively develops subordinates to fulfill these requirements

•Identifies training needs, initiates development, and recommends effective personnel action

•Provides orientation and on-the-job training for subordinates and partners, ensuring that the authority and responsibility for each position is defined and understood

•Mitigates and effectively resolves potential disputes

•Cultivate responsive and engaged Project Superintendents and field leadership who actively live out the Quanta Values in a manner that respects, includes, and supports all stakeholders associated with projects

•Ensures compliance with internal standards, policies, and industry-leading best practices

•Incorporate Lean principles and drive continuous improvement

3.Customer Service & Coordination

•Execute on the Quanta business model which safely delivers renewable energy projects that are well-built, delivered on-time, within budget and delight clients

•Coordinates directly with the customer to ensure optimal communication, customer satisfaction, and effective coordination between the project and other activities occurring at the jobsite

•Respond to client requests in a manner that collaborates for mutual success

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School/GED required; Bachelor/Associates degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred
  • Previous experience performing construction, contracting, and projects in power generation or other construction environments
  • Must be well versed in various aspects of engineering design and construction, and contracting methodologies, as well as project planning and management-related tasks and activities including, but not limited to, engineering, estimating, scheduling, bidding, project management and administration and management of prime contracts, preparation and administration of purchase orders and subcontracts, field supervision, budget control, safety, quality assurance, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in transmission, distribution, and substation work

Supervisory Responsibilities: the individual will be responsible for the safety, performance, and quality assurance of 2-4 renewable projects undergoing construction at any given time. On a temporary basis, the General Superintendent may be required to cover the responsibilities and field supervision of site and trade superintendents, i.e. during vacation, emergencies, etc.

Location: the General Superintendent is responsible for oversight of site and trade superintendents on assigned project(s) and will be required to perform all aspects of their duties from the site of the work. As such, General Superintendent is expected to travel among 2-4 project sites as needed.
