Park Paving Ltd. is one of the largest road construction contractors in the Edmonton and surrounding area, and we have been locally owned and operated for 50 years.
Park Paving Ltd. is hiring a seasonal Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Advisor to support safe and efficient operations across our civil construction projects. The successful candidate will provide field-level safety support, facilitate incident investigations, perform jobsite audits, and help integrate safety into all facets of daily work. This position runs from May to the end of October and includes on-call duties (days/nights), travel between sites, and extensive field interaction with crews.
Working Conditions:
- Field-based role; occasional office work and limited remote flexibility (if approved).
- Travel between job sites is required; use of a company fleet vehicle.
- Average 10-hour days, 6:30 AM start time to meet crews at 7:00 AM.
- Required availability Monday to Saturday; with occasional Sundays and long shifts.
- On-call scheduling (days and nights) will be determined in advance.
- Work continues until construction shutdown (~Oct 31), with HSE shutdown shortly after (exact date TBD).
- This is a Full Time Seasonal position with the opportunity for winter work based on performance and work demands.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Safety Leadership
- Conduct frequent site visits.
- Lead or support tailgate meetings, FLRA and JHA reviews, and toolbox talks.
- Reinforce and communicate Park Paving's safety policies and legislative requirements.
- Ensure all sites have posted safety documentation (First Aiders, Emergency Numbers, Policies per COR).
- Assist with crew setup in SMS apps; clarify workflow and submission expectations.
Hazard & Compliance Oversight
- Complete formal site inspections with checklists; identify and help resolve deficiencies.
- Provide real-time safety support to supervisors and crews.
- Identify and implement risk mitigation strategies.
- Supply and restock PPE, first aid kits, and other safety materials.
- Maintain proper documentation of site conditions, findings, and actions taken.
Incident Management
- Respond promptly to all incidents, near misses, and safety concerns.
- Gather witness statements, photographs and complete incident forms with clarity and detail.
- Ensure timeliness, completeness, and accuracy in report documentation.
- Transport injured workers to medical appointments and follow-ups when needed.
Administrative & Departmental Support
- Review submitted FLRAs, provide feedback, and coach field staff on improvement areas.
- Support return-to-work processes and light duties for injured workers, including oversight of modified work.
- Participate in the training and mentorship of NCSO candidates (shadowing, admin tasks under supervision).
- Assist in ongoing review and development of policies, safe work procedures, and HSE manuals.
- Suggest process improvements to increase the HSE department's efficiency.
- Prepare daily advisor reports and seasonal summaries.
Qualifications:
- 3–5 years' experience in HSE, preferably in civil construction (asphalt, concrete, underground, landscaping).
- Familiar with neighbourhood renewal and municipal urban rehab projects.
- HSE certification (e.g., NCSO, CRSP, CHSC, OHS Certificate).
- COR Peer Auditor Certification.
- Strong knowledge of Alberta OH&S legislation and COR systems.
- Tech-savvy with intermediate to advanced use of Microsoft Office and mobile safety platforms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; approachable, professional, and respectful.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license; acceptable driver's abstract (≤6 demerits in 3 years; no DUI/reckless driving).
Assets:
- First Aid / CPR, WHMIS, CSTS/ RSTS, Ground Disturbance II, and related safety certifications.
- Familiarity with Greater Edmonton's construction standards and expectations.

Pay Scale: 25 - $38 per hour (to be negotiated on education and experience).
