MISSION

The Controller will be responsible for developing and monitoring the total organizational budget, overseeing the preparation of financial reports, providing leadership to the staff team, and encouraging professional growth and development. This role plays a crucial part in assisting the Director of Finance with controlling the overall finances of the department and establishing accounting controls to ensure the security of physical assets.

The Pod Group is partnering with this organization to place a compassionate and hands-on individual to fulfill the role of the Controller.

PRIORITIES

Accounting:

  • Directs and prepares timely, accurate and useful operating/management and financial data, including exception reporting and variance analysis for all operations of the organization.
  • Oversees the preparation of/or prepares, operating and management financial reports, such as exceptional reporting and variance analysis.
  • Develops and implements accounting policies and internal controls.
  • Manages cash flow, banking, audits, funder reporting, and capital expenditures.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of financial systems and ensures compliance.
  • Advises leadership with financial insights and maintains relationships with auditors and funders.

Management:

  • Contributes to strategic and operational planning for the department.
  • Assesses financial needs and supports service innovation aligned with agency goals.
  • Helps establish departmental policies and monitors service performance.

Leadership:

  • Fosters a positive, inclusive, and equity-driven workplace culture.
  • Supports and motivates staff using a strengths-based, solution-focused approach.
  • Drives employee engagement and ensures service outcomes are met.

Supervision:

  • Leads hiring, onboarding, training, and supervision of team members.
  • Conducts regular performance reviews and supports staff development.
  • Collaborates with HR on disciplinary actions and uses responsive leadership tools.

Other:

  • Participates in supervision, committees, and community engagement.
  • Adheres to agency policies and legal/health & safety requirements.
  • Demonstrates agency values and contributes to a safe, respectful workplace.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

TALENTS & EXPERTISE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance or Accounting or related field.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • At least three (3) years of leadership experience.
  • Strong strategic and financial management skills with the ability to lead within a multi-disciplinary health/social service setting.
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize information effectively and provide direction to others.
  • Network and plan at an inter-agency level effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated attention to detail are required.
  • Commitment to adaptability as processes and procedures, and organizational needs evolve over time.
  • Can effectively cope with change, finding ways to advance work and projects.
  • Leads with curiosity and holds space for continuous learning, growth, and development.
  • Ability to take the initiative, problem-solve effectively and achieve high levels of customer service is essential for this position.
