The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join the Centre of Excellence for Language Learning as the Wabanaki Education Consultant. This position will report to the Assistant Director within the Digital Learning and System Excellence Branch of the Anglophone Educational Services Division.
As the Wabanaki Education Consultant, you will lead the development and implementation of innovative, curriculum-connected learning opportunities that strengthen Wabanaki language learning, cultural understanding, histories, and perspectives across New Brunswick. Working with educators, school districts, Wabanaki communities and rightsholders, the Office of First Nations Education, post-secondary institutions, government, and community partners, you will build educator capacity and expand authentic experiential, virtual, land-based, and community-connected learning opportunities for students.
The Role:
The successful candidate`s primary responsibilities will include:
- Lead Centre Operations, Communications, and Continuous Improvement by coordinating Wabanaki language and culture initiatives, managing projects, events, communications, digital platforms, reporting, and program data to support continuous improvement and demonstrate impact.
- Build and manage Strategic Partnerships with Wabanaki communities and rightsholders, educators, school districts, the Office of First Nations Education, post-secondary institutions, government, industry, and community organizations to expand authentic learning opportunities and identify funding and in-kind support.
- Develop resources and build educator capacity by coordinating curriculum-connected resources, teacher supports, experiential learning materials, and professional learning that strengthen educator confidence and capacity to integrate Wabanaki languages, cultures, histories, and perspectives into classroom practice.
- Design and deliver experiential and community-connected learning including virtual learning, land-based learning, workplace experiences, community visits, cultural events, micro-internships, and other opportunities that connect students with Wabanaki Knowledge Holders, Elders, community members, professionals, organizations, and diverse education and career pathways.
- Lead the development and implementation of Wabanaki learning initiatives by identifying emerging opportunities, coordinating projects and resources, supporting partner engagement, and developing innovative and scalable approaches that expand access to authentic Wabanaki language and cultural learning experiences across New Brunswick.
- Provide Provincial Leadership and Collaboration by identifying emerging opportunities, sharing promising practices, supporting consistent implementation across school districts, and collaborating with the Office of First Nations Education, Centre Leads, departmental teams, Wabanaki communities, and other partners to advance priorities related to Wabanaki language learning, Indigenous education, experiential education, cultural understanding, and student success.

You are passionate about strengthening Wabanaki language learning and fostering an appreciation for Wabanaki cultures, histories, and ways of knowing. You believe authentic experiences can inspire students to deepen their understanding of Wabanaki languages and cultures, build meaningful connections, and explore diverse education and career pathways.
Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:
Need to have:
- Bachelor`s degree in Indigenous Studies, Education, Community Development, Indigenous Education, Language Learning, or another related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in one or more of the following:
- Program or project management;
- Indigenous education or community engagement;
- Partnership development;
- Experiential learning;
- Educational program development;
- Language development initiatives; or
- Professional learning or curriculum implementation.
- Demonstrated experience leading projects and coordinating complex initiatives with multiple partners.
- Experience building respectful partnerships with Indigenous communities, rightsholders, educational institutions, community organizations, government, or industry.
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting program data to support planning and continuous improvement.
- Knowledge of Wabanaki languages, cultures, histories, and perspectives; K-12 education systems; Indigenous education; experiential learning; community engagement; or professional learning.
Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability on your application.
Nice to have:
- Experience developing educational resources, coordinating professional learning, or supporting curriculum implementation.
- Experience using digital technologies to coordinate projects, communications, and online resources.
- Knowledge of a Wabanaki language will be considered an asset.

Wage
Pay Band 5: $68,614 - $95,810 annually.
Work environment:
- Office location: 250 King Street, Fredericton.
- Possibility of remote work within New Brunswick.
- Occasional travel throughout New Brunswick, including to First Nations communities, schools, and partner organizations.
