Learning and Achievement manages the research, design, and delivery process for curricular products and services within the Anglophone sector. The K-8 branch is responsible for developing high-quality curriculum and resource materials for Kindergarten through Grade 8, collaborating with district staff, and monitoring the progress of EECD initiatives.

What you will do:

Reporting to the Director of Learning and Achievement for K-8, the successful candidate will lead and support projects related to improved Numeracy and Literacy outcomes within the Anglophone Sector Education Plan: Strong Basics, Bright Futures. The Learning Specialist for Middle Level Academic Support will be involved in leading and supporting Middle Level pilot sites and the Academic Support Teacher initiative for Grades 6-8. The successful candidate will contribute to Literacy and Numeracy Improvement efforts, support the development of an Intervention Framework, and further develop curriculum, teacher resources, and data collection plans. Additionally, the Learning Specialist for Middle Level and Academic Support will be expected to collaborate districts and interdepartmentally on the development of resources for professional learning. They will endorse and support curriculum products and services, develop briefing notes, communicate impact data to formal government, and support provincial community of practice for instructional leaders of Literacy and Mathematics.

The successful candidate`s primary responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and support Middle Level pilot sites and the Academic Support Teacher initiative for

Grades 6-8.

  • Lead and support projects focused on improving Literacy and Numeracy outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of an Intervention Framework.
  • Lead and support the development of curriculum resources, teacher resources, and professional learning that align with Education Plan priorities.
  • Develop and implement data collection and monitoring plans to measure implementation, impact, and student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with curriculum learning specialists, school districts, Educational Support Services (ESS), and Assessment and Analysis to advance provincial priorities and initiatives.
  • Oversee the development, review, alignment, and endorsement of curriculum products and services.
  • Develop briefing notes, presentations, reports, and other materials to support senior leadership and government decision-making.
  • Analyze and communicate implementation and impact data to inform continuous improvement and demonstrate progress toward provincial goals.
  • Facilitate and support a provincial Community of Practice for instructional leaders in Literacy and Mathematics.
  • Build and maintain effective partnerships across branches, districts, and stakeholder groups to support coherent implementation of evidence-informed practices.
  • Support initiatives that strengthen instructional leadership, educator capacity, and improved student achievement in Grades 6-8.

You have familiarity with the NB Curriculum Framework and you hold the Education Sector in the highest regard.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have:

  • Master`s degree in Education, or a related field and a minimum of seven (7) years of public-school teaching experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Leadership experience.
  • Project management experience.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Specialized subject matter expertise and knowledge in literacy and numeracy 6-8.
  • Experience in the development and delivery of curricula and professional learning.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability on your application.

Nice to have:

  • Written and spoken competence in French.
  • Change Management training and/or experience.
  • Experience with formal research.
  • Experience in instructional design.

Salary:

Pay Band 7: $95,550 - $115,622 annually.

Work environment:

  • Office location: 250 King Street, Fredericton.
  • Some travel throughout province required.
  • Remote work within New Brunswick can be considered.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30.
