Protective Services consists of Campus Enforcement and Patrol, Emergency Management and Parking Administration. We work closely with other members of the campus community to ensure a safe and supportive environment that supports the academic mission and core services of the University. This includes the development and implementation of an emergency management program; maintaining a risk management framework; and the safety and security of people and property of the University.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Campus Enforcement and Patrol Officer will be responsible for:

  • Protecting the safety of students, faculty, staff, guests, property, and equipment of the University; conducting foot and mobile patrols throughout campus;
  • Responding to and managing incidents, coordinating emergency communications, and fulfilling requests for service;
  • Gathering information for incidents and investigations, maintaining accurate records, and preparing reports of accidents, investigations, and other work performed; entering reports and data into Memorial's Incident Management System (MIMS);
  • Responding quickly to alarms and requests for medical assistance, and providing crisis and suicide intervention;
  • Preventing crime, monitoring criminal and suspicious activity, serving as court witnesses, and protecting crime scenes;
  • Engaging with and educating the campus community on Memorial's policies, and participating in public outreach and educational activities;
  • Establishing positive and ongoing relationships with members of the campus community in line with community policing principles;
  • Providing crowd and traffic control and conducting parking enforcement;
  • Operating the Communications Control Centre and monitoring related security systems;
  • Work is performed both inside and outside, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
  • Performing other related duties as required.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Experience (1-3 years) in security work; graduation from high school supplemented by completion of a security program is required; or any equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered.
  • Successful candidates must be proficient and comfortable working with a range of computer software, such as MS Office, incident reporting, video management, and life safety systems, among others. Experience with CCTV, access control, or alarm systems is an asset.
  • A clear Certificate of Conduct and Vulnerable Sector Check issued by the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary or the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is required.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and satisfactory driver's abstract as per MUN Fleet Policy.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C, valid for a period of at least one year from the start of the employment contract, Basic Life Support certification is considered an asset.
  • Certificates and/or experience in criminology, police studies, law enforcement, crisis intervention, conflict management, or suicide intervention are considered assets.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.

SALARY $23.45 - $33.62 per hour (NAPE Local 7803)
