The department`s Community and Youth Justice Services Branch is seeking a Probation and Parole Officer in the Northern region. Probation and Parole Officers play a vital role in ensuring the safety of New Brunswickers through their work with clients in the criminal justice system, helping them follow their community service or conditional sentencing orders while encouraging a law-abiding mindset.

What you will do

As a Probation and Parole Officer, your duties will include preparing pre-sentence reports and case plans; attending court; enforcing community service and conditional sentencing orders; reporting violations to law enforcement; and supervising and guiding clients on probation. You will be responsible for making community-based program referrals for your clients, which can include treatment for mental illness or addictions, or resources for education and career planning. You will work closely with departmental colleagues in Adult Custody Services, Victim Services, Court Services and other branches of Justice and Public Safety as clients move through the criminal justice system.

Need to have

• Undergraduate degree in one of the related social sciences: psychology, sociology, criminology or social work

Written and spoken competence in English and French will be required. Please state your language capability.

Operational requirement

• Successful completion of a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) vulnerable sector reference check
• Must have and maintain a valid minimum class 5 driver`s licence

Nice to have

• Experience in a correctional environment or in counselling

Wage

$ 2,807 to $ 3,448 bi-weekly based on education and experience

Work environment

• Office locations: Campbellton or Bathurst
• You may be required to travel to satellite offices.
• Hours of work: Monday to Friday, 8:15am - 4:30pm
• Your team will include other probation officers, victim services coordinators, a regional director and administrative support.
