Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park is New Brunswick's top attraction. The Hopewell Rocks is located along the coast of the world-famous Bay of Fundy and attracts over 350,000 visitors from around the globe every year.
What you will do:
The Assistant Manager of Park Operations at Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park reports to the Park Manager and provides support in overseeing the Maintenance and Security teams, ensuring a safe, well-maintained, and enjoyable environment for all visitors. This position ensures that park infrastructure, facilities, and grounds meet Parks NB policies, safety protocols, and service standards. The successful candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong organizational skills, technical knowledge of maintenance operations, and the ability to foster a secure and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, and wildlife.
The duties and responsibilities will include:
Maintenance Operations Management
- Supervising and coordinating park maintenance teams in the upkeep of infrastructure, facilities, and grounds, including trails, roads, washrooms, and recreational areas
- Developing and implementing maintenance schedules to ensure proactive and preventive maintenance to avoid downtime
- Overseeing inspections of park infrastructure, ensuring functionality, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards
- Collaborating with contractors/specialized service providers when necessary for large-scale repairs or projects
- Managing inventory and procurement of tools, equipment, and materials for efficient operations
- Responding to maintenance emergencies or infrastructure issues to minimize disruptions to visitors and operations
Security Operations Oversight
- Leading and supervising security staff to ensure the safety of park visitors, staff, property, and wildlife
- Support the implementation of security protocols, policies, and incident response plans for the park
- Collaborating with local law enforcement, emergency services, and other stakeholders to respond to incidents or emergencies within the park
- Ensuring all rules, policies and regulations are followed
- Overseeing patrol schedules, access control, and incident reporting to maintain a strong security presence at all park hours
- Reviewing security reports and supporting staff in addressing inquiries or issues related to visitor complaints or safety concerns
Leadership and Team Coordination
- Providing guidance, training, and mentorship for maintenance and security staff to ensure consistency and high-quality performance
- Establishing clear goals and expectations for team members and monitoring their progress through regular evaluations
- Developing staffing schedules for both teams, ensuring adequate coverage across all operational areas
- Promoting teamwork, collaboration, and a culture of accountability among employees
- Addressing staffing issues, including performance concerns or conflicts, in a timely and professional manner
Budgeting and Resource Management
- Assisting the Park Manager with budgeting for maintenance and security operations
- Monitoring expenses, optimizing resource allocation, and seeking cost-effective solutions for operations without compromising quality
- Maintaining accurate financial records related to maintenance and security, including payroll, equipment costs, and contract services
Safety and Compliance Oversight
- Ensuring that all maintenance and security operations comply with environmental, safety, and regulatory standards
- Conducting routine safety audits and risk assessments, proactively identifying and resolving potential hazards
- Organizing and facilitating training for emergency preparedness and workplace safety
Collaboration and Support
- Coordinating with the Park Manager and other park departments to develop and implement strategies for ensuring visitor satisfaction and operational excellence
- Acting as a point of contact for visitor inquiries concerning park maintenance or safety
- Assisting in addressing visitor feedback related to infrastructure or security concerns

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:
Required Competencies:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Facilities Management, Parks Operations, Environmental Studies, Public Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in operations, maintenance, or security management, preferably in a park, recreation, or tourism environment
- Proven leadership experience supervising multifunctional teams
- Solid knowledge of facility maintenance, infrastructure repairs, and security operations
- Experience with budgeting and resource management
- Strong understanding of workplace health and safety standards and emergency response management
- Project management experience
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Nice to have:
- Experience in the tourism industry
- Experience in environmental management
- Proficiency in maintenance management and scheduling software is considered an asset

Wage:
Pay Band 4 - $2,271.00 to $3,176.00 bi-weekly
Work environment:
- Office location: Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park

- Minimum of 36.25 hours per week
- Working shifts and variable hours, including evenings and weekends
