(Full-time Contractual to June 2028)

OVERVIEW:

The Geriatric Research and Care of the Elderly (GRACE) lab is currently seeking a manager to grow the unit, coordinate local and national research activities, and develop a long-term operational model to sustain a provincial research team. The purpose of the lab is to enhance the delivery of geriatric care and improve the efficiency of the provincial health system. This role focuses on strategic planning, coordination, and execution, ensuring projects meet objectives, timelines, and budgets. The candidate will also need experience and skills in student supervision, project management, and financial management. The GRACE lab is based at Memorial University and currently includes 10 clinician faculty, with approval to hire 10 more. The lab is growing rapidly and has obtained grants from multiple funding sources, including the provincial government and Healthcare Excellence Canada. Together with the clinician investigators, the lab manager will be responsible for growing this funding base to include major federal, non-profit and/or commercial sources.

DUTIES:

The successful applicant will be required to oversee day-to-day management activities in a research environment with the support and input of clinician investigators and reporting directly to the Discipline of Family Medicine Operations Manager. Duties will include working with , institutional finance officers to ensure all expenditures follow the policies and guidelines of funders, Memorial University and Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services as appropriate; compiling and submitting financial reports as required (working with the relevant administrative units); monitoring partner contributions; analyzing short and long-term resource needs and recommending appropriate adjustment of staffing and resources; providing budgetary statements and overviews as required by faculty investigators and taking part in and providing advice on project budget reviews; coordinating with HR, the faculty investigators, and team leads around advertising positions and the recruitment of postdocs, graduate students, and other positions as required; coordinating and organizing all project team meetings as well as recording/sharing meeting minutes; assisting the research team with tracking project progress and preparation of interim and final project reports; liaising with investigators, team leads, community partners, industry partners, and other interest holders on projects including government agencies; overseeing research tasks such as protocol development and data collection, analysis and interpretation; helping to coordinate and manage outreach and Knowledge Mobilization (KM) activities, including coordinating media inquiries, communications with the funding agency, as well as project partners and external organizations; designing and maintaining a lab website, compiling newsletters, social media posts, and updating pages on social networking websites; attending and documenting key activities for dissemination via the web and social media; managing multi-site research ethics approvals; developing and maintaining contacts in health services and policy communities at the local, provincial, regional, national and international level; seeking grant opportunities for the lab faculty as primary investigator, co-investigator and collaborator; and performing other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience (5-10 years) in project management within healthcare and/or frailty and dementia care, and completion of a master's or PhD in a related discipline (e.g. Health Science, Clinical Epidemiology, Public Health, Business Administration) are required. The candidate will require high-level skills with Microsoft Office Suite, project management software, project coordination and research ethics board navigation. Knowledge and experience with research software (R, SAS, Stata, SPSS, NVivo), and in analyzing data would be strong assets. A collaborative working style, excellent written and verbal communication skills, diplomacy and tact, and the ability to prioritize work and pursue a scientific project independently, with proactive action and an inner motivation to succeed in a focused scientific environment, are required. Experience and/or training in project management and financial management, knowledge of Banner Finance, completion of training in Good Clinical Practices for research studies, a track record of peer-reviewed publications, student supervision, and experience with knowledge translation would be considered strong assets.

SALARY $67,414 – $91,929 per annum (Management and Professional)
