Job Summary
This position works within the Nurse Practitioner?s (NP) scope of practice in the following category of practice: Family/All Ages. This is an advanced practice role providing professional, analytical and an autonomous comprehensive range of health services to clients and patients including, but not limited to, health assessments and diagnosis of diseases, disorders, injuries and conditions; treating and managing acute and chronic illnesses; and identifying health risks and needs within a holistic model.

The primary purpose of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is to provide comprehensive healthcare, as a member of a collaborative team, to our Oncology patients. The NP provides service through core competencies of direct care, consultation, expert guidance, leadership, ethical decision making, and collaboration. Care provision may include, but is not limited to clinical assessments, treatment/care planning, outcomes identification, and patient education. The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team within the Provincial Cancer Care Program.

This position is responsible for providing health assessments and diagnosis of diseases in a virtual or ambulatory setting, assessing and monitoring patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment and management of post-chemotherapy complications; treatment and management of acute and chronic illnesses, diagnostic treatment, patient education, and follow up care of clients and patients with oncological diseases and continuous treatment plans in collaboration with the primary clinician in interdisciplinary and independent clinics. This is a central role that works collaboratively within the interprofessional team based on needs identified and thorough ongoing assessment and monitoring of clients in the Oncology division within the Cancer Care program. The NP also demonstrates evidence-based clinical decision-making, practice, and treatment; evaluate the client?s plan of care and outcomes and documents revisions, as necessary.

Job Demands

Constantly moves, lifts, or operates equipment/machinery up to 10 lbs. and regularly is required to lift/move equipment, books, supplies. Occasionally, may have to reposition a patient over 50 lbs.
Physical effort also includes regular sitting to conduct patient histories, performing work on the computer and when assessing patients, regularly stands or walks.
When performing procedures, regularly uses fine finger/precision work and hand tools (i.e. medical instruments, computer mouse, stethoscope, dopplers, etc.) requiring accurate control and steadiness.
Visual concentration is required when performing physical assessment and procedures, completing charts/reports, observing patients, reading equipment/monitors, and completing work-related correspondence on the computer.

Job Qualifications
Completion of an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner program is required.
Current and continuing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador and Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner Family/All Ages with the CRNNL.
A minimum of five years clinical experience in the last seven years in cancer care is required.
Experience with provision of care using virtual platforms is considered an asset.
Current BCLS Certification is required
Possessed strong abilities in the areas of collaboration, clinical reasoning, professional development, interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management and teamwork.
Demonstrated progressive clinical leadership skills.
Possessed strong communication, problem solving, decision-making, and teaching skills.
Demonstrated ability to function autonomously in an advanced practice role.
Support and participate in research to improve practice and client outcomes.
Demonstrated skills in computer and database management skills
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
