Treasury Coordinator

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Supervisor - Treasury, the Treasury Coordinator will be responsible in the day to day cash operations for our company. The Employee is expected to exercise initiative and judgement in carrying out assigned tasks. Prioritizes work activities and makes decisions ensuring the completion of assigned tasks in a timely efficient manner. Assists and provides direction to the Treasury Clerk.
In this role you will:
- Monitor all day-to-day banking activities by maintaining a cashbook and initiate transfers between corporate bank accounts as required, review transactions processed through bank accounts for accuracy, and ensure transactions are properly recorded;
- Assist with the short-term borrowings for Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro under the direction of the Treasury Supervisor, reconcile monthly fees and prepare payment requests as required;
- Use specialized bank applications to process Pre-Authorized rural electricity accounts as provided by Customer Service;
- Submit the EFT files and biweekly payroll files for payment and create wire payments in both Canadian and foreign currency as indicated by the bi-weekly cheque run;
- Process all Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro Sinking Fund transactions including purchases, maturities, and monthly accruals and maintain all related records such as amortization schedules and sinking fund cash account;
- Prepare and submit Coupon and Bond payments for approval and processing on a regular basis;
- Purchase foreign currency as directed by the Treasury Supervisor;
- Supply email remittances to the Treasury Clerk to input retail payments and review weekly bank deposits;
- Provide assistance to Customer Service by answering questions related to customers' payments;
- Answer queries from Accounts Payable and General Ledger such as cheques cashed, wire trace, non-electricity deposits, and bank reconciliation issues;
- Record monthly Treasury related journal entries;
- Compile information for the quarterly financial reporting requirements;
- Monitor accounts for major customers by maintaining a schedule of payments received and calculate interest of past due power billings at each month-end;
- Contact the Bank's Business Support Center regarding encoding errors, EFT payment trace and recalls, and file upload issues;
- Prepare and submit a monthly short-term paper report to Bank of Canada and CP Survey on short-term borrowings;
- Responsible for the filing of all bank statements and various reports;
- Assist internal and external auditors in gathering information as requested;
- Also, provide assistance to the Treasury Supervisor as needed.
What We're Looking For:
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective working relationships with members of various teams;
- Excellent analytical skills and problem solving abilities.
What You'll Need:
- Completion of a University Degree or a 3 year College Diploma from a recognized educational institution preferably in Business or Commerce, with a concentration in Finance;
- A minimum of five years' experience in Treasury and Cash Management functions, including implementation and maintenance of effective treasury and cash management processes;
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Demonstrates proficiency in the use of JD Edwards or similar ERP software, investing and borrowing of short-term funds, and execution of foreign exchange transactions, normally acquired through exposure to money market and FX transactions with major Canadian banks and investment dealers;
- Knowledge in accounting and reconciliation skills;
- A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, banking, and cash management.
