What is the Opportunity?

The Associate Director, Business Continuity Management will be responsible for the first line of defense for Corporate Functions in Canada. The Associate Director will oversee and manage the compliance to the BCM Policy and Standards and through timely and informative reporting to the 1st Line BUORMs (Business Unit Operational Risk Management) within the team's scope.

The Associate Director, Business Continuity Management will also be responsible for the management of Operational Resilience Lifecycle for Group Risk Management.

In addition, the Associate Director will assists Group Risk Management (GRM) in identifying and mitigating operational risk and supports the Corporate Functions teams maintain the maximum level of preparedness, confirming to RBC BCM Standards for Incident Management and Business Continuity Planning (BCP).

What will you do?

  • Prepare business lines for potential disruption through communication and reporting processes re: Incident Management, Business Continuity and Recovery Strategy within area(s) of responsibility.
  • Ensures the compliance activities of BCM are completed on a timely basis including:
    • Business Impact Assessments (BIA) to understand the impact of process failures
    • Business Continuity Plans (BCP) to develop response activities
    • BCM exercises to validate planning assumptions and test controls (including work area recovery, contact exercises and simulations as required)
  • Provide analysis and insights on function specific KRIs and KPIs to support management reporting and investigate and resolve deficiencies through the monthly reporting and quarterly continuous monitoring process.
  • Manage the delivery and quality of the Operational Resilience Lifecycle for Group Risk Management.
  • Partnering with EBCM Centralized team, Regional and Business Line Executive to create, coordinate and maintain a multi-discipline Incident Management Team to provide resilient response to incidents.
  • Participate in relevant BCM forums and discussion groups as a representative of the profession as well as the interests of the Corporate Functions' teams.
  • Track outstanding audit items or regulatory findings relative to the respective business lines, as they relate to BCM, assuring established timelines are met.
  • Point of contact for the Business Line(s) Regional Incident Management Team, maintaining a working relationship/liaison with other Crisis Management Teams.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • University degree, or equivalent, or relevant professional qualification.
  • 5+ years Business Continuity Risk Management experience within a financial services environment, conducting risk and control assessment / process reviews, and/or key controls assessments (monitoring/testing), in a combination of knowledge, skill and background in operational risk practices, audit or compliance functions, and/or one or more businesses.
  • Professionalism and solutions orientation required to liaise directly with Senior Management with different lines of business.
  • Previous experience working in highly regulated business environments.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal (verbal and written) and presentation skills.

Nice-to-have

  • ABCP (Associate Business Continuity Professional) designation
