Who we are:
The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (EECD) is seeking to fill the role of Web Development Specialist within the Information Technology Strategy and Business Solutions (ITSBS) Branch of the Corporate Services Division. The ITSBS Branch plays a critical role in enabling the department's digital agenda by delivering secure, reliable, and user-centered technology solutions that support both internal operations and public-facing services.

The Digital Transformation team within the ITSBS Branch is responsible for advancing modern, accessible, and scalable web and digital services across the department. Working closely with business and technical partners, the team supports the design, development, and continuous improvement of digital solutions aligned with EECD's strategic priorities and government standards. Through innovation and collaboration, the branch ensures the department is well-positioned to leverage technology in the delivery of programs and services.

What you will do:

As a Web Development Specialist, you will lead the design, development, deployment, and continuous improvement of web sites and digital solutions that support EECD's strategic objectives. You will act as both a technical expert and strategic collaborator, ensuring that web sites are modern, accessible, secure, and aligned with user needs, business goals, and enterprise architecture.

In this role, you will work closely with business owners, digital leads, technical teams, and senior leadership to translate requirements into technical specifications, prototypes, and scalable solutions. You will guide coding, testing, and deployment activities, while also contributing to cloud-based infrastructure, automated deployments, and system integrations. Acting as a design authority on key initiatives, you will champion best practices in user experience, accessibility, privacy, and performance optimization.

You will also ensure that web sites remain operational, secure, and continuously improved through performance monitoring, troubleshooting, and user feedback. In addition, you will support knowledge sharing, and contribute to strategic planning and innovation efforts, helping position EECD to effectively leverage digital technologies now and into the future.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of WordPress web sites and digital solutions, ensuring they are user-centered, accessible, secure, and aligned with business needs and government standards.
  • Analyze user and business requirements, define technical specifications, and develop implementation plans to deliver high-quality digital experiences.
  • Design and implement intuitive UI/UX solutions that meet accessibility, privacy, security, and performance requirements.
  • Coordinate project activities across cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment of timelines, resources, and deliverables.
  • Oversee coding, testing, and deployment activities, ensuring solutions meet industry best practices and comply with applicable legislation, policies, and standards.
  • Collaborate with cloud and infrastructure teams to support deployment, including cloud-based environments, DNS configuration, and system integrations.
  • Monitor application performance, troubleshoot issues, and lead continuous improvement efforts to maintain secure, reliable, and up-to-date solutions.
  • Prepare technical documentation and provide coaching, and knowledge transfer to team members and support staff.
  • Act as a design authority on digital transformation initiatives, guiding stakeholders and senior leadership on technical and strategic decisions.
  • Translate business goals and user needs into design strategies, including information architecture, user flows, wireframes, and prototypes.
  • Research, evaluate, and support cloud-based technologies, including scripting automated deployments and participating in testing and issue resolution.
  • Contribute to innovation and strategic planning by promoting modern development practices, user-centered design, and emerging technologies across the department.

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have:

  • Diploma in Information Technology with a minimum of 4 years of related experience specifically in developing WordPress websites; or
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or a related area with a minimum of 2 years of related experience specifically in developing WordPress websites.
  • Demonstrated experience with HTML5, CSS3, and PHP; modern web frameworks (e.g. WordPress); cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, CloudFlare, Azure, etc.); and back-end development and databases (e.g., MySQL).
  • Experience as Google Professional Cloud Developer, or Google Certified Professional DevOps Engineer or AWS DevOps Engineer
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability.

Salary:
Pay Band 4: $59,046 - $82,576 annually

Work environment:

  • Office location: 250 King Street, Fredericton
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30
