The Policy and Climate Change Division has the responsibility to undertake research, policy and legislative development, consultation and relationship building, public engagement and education, as well as strategic project management, in support of government priorities and departmental objectives. Within the Division, the Climate Change Secretariat leads initiatives promoting the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and the adaptation to impacts of climate change. It also focuses on initiatives related to education, awareness, and capacity-building.

What you will do?
As a member of the Climate Change Secretariat team, you will be responsible for providing strategic policy advice and leadership on New Brunswick's greenhouse gas emissions targets, including the commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Integrating technical and policy analysis to develop sound greenhouse gas reduction policy;
  • Formulating new concepts in legislation relating to net zero targets and reducing greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Conducting senior level research, analysis, and cross-jurisdictional reviews on net zero and greenhouse gas reduction policies;
  • Developing and presenting proposals and briefings to various levels of government and stakeholders;
  • Advising government policy and decision-making on net zero objectives in cabinet submissions, budget processes, regulatory initiatives, infrastructure investments, and policy and program development;
  • Leading, or representing the Department on, working groups and committees relating to net zero and greenhouse gas reduction policies;
  • Ensuring provincial net zero strategies are informed by credible data, information, and best practices;
  • Developing and overseeing implementation frameworks, progress tracking, accountability and reporting procedures; and
  • Engaging with internal and external partners and stakeholders;

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Essential qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field and a minimum of six (6) years of related work experience.

OR

A Law degree and a minimum of four (4) years of related work experience.

Successful candidates should demonstrate the following:

  • An understanding of climate change and greenhouse gas emissions;
  • Experience with technical analysis or policy analysis related to climate change, environmental management, or sciences; and
  • Experience conducting research, analysis, and preparing recommendations.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

Asset Qualifications
Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate one or more of the following asset qualifications:

  • Direct policy development experience;
  • Experience developing reports;
  • Experience with leading large projects, programs, or initiatives;
  • Experience with stakeholder relations;
  • Demonstrating that experience with the above qualifications relates to aspects of climate change, greenhouse gas emissions, or net zero emissions targets.

Wage
Pay Band 6: $3,021.00 to $4,019.00 bi-weekly, based on 36.25 hours per week

Work environment

  • Office location: 20 McGloin (Marysville Place), Fredericton.
  • Standard hours of work: Monday - Friday, 8:15-4:30 (office schedule)
  • Possibility of remote work within New Brunswick.
