OVERVIEW
The Centre for Rural Health Studies (CRHS) is currently seeking a Laboratory Coordinator to develop the centre, coordinate local and national research activities, and build a sustainable, long-term operational model for a provincial research team.
The CRHS is a growing and dynamic research centre within the Discipline of Family Medicine at Memorial University. CRHS is dedicated to strengthening rural and remote healthcare across Newfoundland and Labrador through community-engaged research, capacity development, and innovative partnerships.
CRHS's work spans multiple programs, including the nationally recognized Six for Six (6for6) physician research training initiative, the development of Learning HealthCare Communities (LHCC) in rural regions, and collaborative projects supporting rural health system improvement. The center's broader goal is to improve research in rural areas and enhance the efficiency of the provincial health system.
This role emphasizes strategic planning, coordination, and implementation, ensuring projects meet their objectives, deadlines, and budgets. The candidate should have experience and skills in supervising students, managing projects, and handling finances. DUTIES
Reporting to the Operations Manager for the Discipline of Family Medicine and working closely with CRHS faculty, the Project Manager will oversee daily management activities in a research environment.
Duties include:
- Supporting the development and implementation of long-term operational processes to strengthen the Centre's sustainability.
- Monitoring project timelines, milestones, risks, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with objectives and deadlines.
- Coordinating project team meetings, preparing agendas, recording minutes, and facilitating follow-up actions.
- Collaborating with institutional finance officers to ensure all expenditures adhere to the policies and guidelines of funders, Memorial University, and Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services as appropriate.
- Preparing and submitting financial reports as required (in coordination with the relevant administrative units); monitoring partner contributions; analyzing short- and long-term resource needs and recommending suitable adjustments to staffing and resources.
- Providing budgetary statements and summaries as needed by faculty investigators
- Participating in and advising on project budget reviews and supporting budget development for new proposals and ongoing programs.
- Coordinating with HR, faculty investigators, and team leaders regarding advertising positions and recruiting postdocs, graduate students, and other roles as necessary; organizing all project team meetings and recording/sharing meeting minutes.
- Assisting the research team with knowledge translation activities, tracking project progress and preparing interim and final reports for funders and partners.
- Liaising with investigators, team leads, community partners, industry collaborators, and other stakeholders on projects, including government agencies, and representing CRHS at meetings, workshops, and stakeholder events as required; Overseeing research activities such as protocol development and data collection, analysis, and interpretation and ensuring documentation, data management, and reporting processes meet institutional and ethical standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) in coordinating projects across geographically separated partners, including demonstrated project management experience covering all phases of the project life cycle. A graduate Master's or PhD degree in Public Health, Community Health, Epidemiology or relevant discipline is required, or an equivalent combination of experience and training. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively to build successful relationships within and between academics, governments, and communities, and to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment is required, as is experience in coordinating all phases of the project life cycle, knowledge translation, and program evaluation, as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability in research design, data collection, analysis, project reporting is also essential.
Familiarity with university policies and procedures would be an asset, as would experience in an institution of higher learning. Additional desirable qualifications include familiarity with rural or remote health contexts, experience supporting multi-partner research projects, and prior involvement in capacity-building programs such as those offered through CRHS.
SALARY $67,414 – $91,929 per annum (Management and Professional)
