RESEARCH ASSISTANT II (BAND LEVEL 7)

(Three Year Contractual Position, Subject to Renewal)

DUTIES

Dr. Qutuba Karwi's laboratory is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Assistant to join our cardiovascular research team. Our lab focuses on cardiac metabolism and heart function in health and disease, using in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro experimental models. The Research Assistant will support ongoing research projects investigating cardiac pathophysiology and metabolic regulation. The successful candidate will work closely with Dr. Karwi and other team members to conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, and contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications. The duties will include performing and assisting with echocardiographic assessments in small animal models; conducting cell culture experiments, including maintenance and experimental treatments; operating and maintaining an isolated working heart perfusion system; collecting, processing, and analyzing experimental data; maintaining accurate laboratory records and ensuring compliance with safety and ethical standards; and assisting with general laboratory organization and inventory management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience (1-3 Years) in physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, veterinary, biomedical sciences, biology or related field; completion of most coursework towards a Master's degree in a related field; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong organizational skills and attention to detail, along with the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative research team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Hands-on experience with echocardiography, cell culture, and/or isolated working heart perfusion systems would be considered a strong asset. Experience with small animal handling and experimental models; familiarity with data analysis software and statistical methods; and experience in cardiovascular or metabolic research is preferred.

SALARY $61,099 - $71,679 per annum (Non-Bargaining)
