Together, we know we need to reach our climate goals while doing what's best for Nova Scotians -- balancing costs and ensuring that as your electricity gets greener, it stays reliable, too. The Eastern Clean Energy team plays a pivotal role in getting us there.
We are looking for a Senior Cost Specialist to join our Clean Energy team. Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the Cost Associate works in partnership with the Cost Specialist to monitor and report on project cost estimates, budgets, forecasts and supporting cost management activities throughout the life of the project.
Note: this is a term position with an expected end date of December 2028.
Key elements of this role include:
Responsibilities:
- Support the project Cost Specialist in the monthly and annual cost control processes, as well as developing detailed cost estimates.
- Schedule annual budget development meetings, capture all supporting documentation to support budgets for corporate submission.
- Schedule monthly team leaders forecast meetings, capture revised forecasts and document information to support the changes.
- Review of contractor's incurred cost and forecast reports and development of monthly accruals.
- Consolidation of the project monthly financial variances and other status reports.
- Ensure the provision of budgetary and actual information as requested.
- Change management process assistance, ensuring the Management of Change register is maintained and the processes are followed.
- Support the Cost Specialist in maintaining the Trend Register for any emerging or proposed costs.
- Conducts ad hoc reporting such as variance analysis and status reports as required by team leads and other project members.
- Document cost control procedures.
- Ensure necessary project forecast alignment with schedule derived from updates as directed by the project Planner.
- Retrieve project cost information as requested by team leaders.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
- Diploma or degree in business administration.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in cost controls in a major project environment.
- Demonstrated experience in project budgeting, forecasting, reporting and Management of Change.
Technical/Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:
- Demonstrated understanding of project management principles and processes, especially project cost control processes.
- Strong knowledge and skill in project control software applications and MS Office suite. Knowledge of PMWeb Project Management Software is an asset
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy in managing large volumes of documentation.
- Ability to work independently to set priorities and manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
