Senior Solution Architect

Job Description

RBC Direct Investing and InvestEase Technology team is seeking a Senior Solution Architect to lead the design and evolution of secure, scalable, and resilient digital wealth platforms.

In this role, you will be responsible for shaping end-to-end technical solutions that power client-facing investing and advisory experiences. You will ensure solutions align with business priorities, regulatory requirements, and RBC enterprise architecture standards while supporting platform modernization and digital growth.

You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, product teams, engineering, enterprise architecture, security, and infrastructure partners to translate strategic initiatives into robust and future-ready technology solutions.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?
• Design and socialize end-to-end solution architectures for complex digital wealth initiatives across Direct Investing and InvestEase platforms.
• Translate business capabilities and requirements into scalable, secure, and high-performing technical solutions.
• Define architecture patterns using modern principles including API-first design, microservices, and event-driven architectures.
• Establish integration standards across internal systems, third-party platforms, and enterprise services.
• Ensure solutions meet performance, resiliency, scalability, and security standards, particularly in high-volume, mission-critical environments.
• Collaborate with enterprise architecture, security, infrastructure, and data teams to ensure compliance with governance, risk, and regulatory expectations.
• Provide architectural oversight throughout delivery to ensure adherence to approved designs and technical standards.
• Support modernization initiatives, including migration toward cloud-native and hybrid cloud platforms (Azure/OpenShift).
• Influence decision-making across multiple stakeholders and guide engineering teams in resolving complex technical challenges.
• Manage multiple priorities and aggressive timelines while maintaining architectural integrity and long-term sustainability.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO SUCCEED?
MUST HAVE:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
• 7+ years of overall IT experience, including significant experience in solution design, and application architecture.
• Proven experience designing and delivering client-facing digital platforms in financial services or similarly regulated industries.
• Strong knowledge of:
• RESTful API design and integration patterns
• Microservices and distributed systems
• Event-driven architecture (e.g., Kafka, MQ)
• Containerization (OpenShift/Kubernetes)
• Cloud-native application design principles
• Experience implementing security architecture patterns including OAuth2, OIDC, SSO, SAML, encryption, and secure integration practices.
• Experience designing highly available, fault-tolerant systems with strong observability and monitoring practices.
• Practical experience working within cloud or hybrid cloud environments (Azure preferred).
• Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Demonstrated leadership capability in influencing cross-functional teams and driving architectural decisions.

NICE-TO-HAVE:
• Experience within brokerage, wealth management, digital investing, or advisory platforms.
• Experience modernizing legacy systems within large financial institutions.
• Exposure to regulatory and compliance considerations in financial services environments.
• Familiarity with enterprise architecture governance processes.
• Experience working with enterprise API ecosystems or GraphQL-based architectures.
