Job Description

What is the opportunity?

As a Lead IT Scrum master within Insurance Technology, you will lead/contribute to key insurance technology projects through the use of RBC's Agile Operating Model, stakeholder management and governance expertise to meet program goals.

We are looking for strategic thinker, and passionate agile project management enthusiast to drive and support leadership team on executing data and digital strategy.

As a member of a dynamic, fast paced team, this role requires strong project management and extensive scrum master knowledge and experience, effective written and verbal communication skills, a strong work ethic and a demonstrated capability to multi-task effectively. This role requires strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills as well as a demonstrated sense of urgency to respond to changing priorities at times. This is complemented by a positive attitude and a willingness to take accountability for results achieved.

What will you do?

  • Ensure strong, consistent application of the right Agile Leadership Capabilities through effective stakeholder and scope management, team leadership, and management of internal and external dependencies.

  • Participate in quarterly Program Increment planning, setup JIRA boards for quarterly program increments, and manage scrum of scrums, remove impediments, and execute sprint ceremonies such as sprint planning, retrospectives and other scrum related activities.

  • Demonstrate strong competence in Project Delivery Excellence by establishing and maintaining effective project governance routines, facilitating, and planning meetings and ceremonies in alignment with RBC's agile Framework and project governance policies to ensure clear, concise and timely communication across project deliverables, including management of project financials and understanding of benefits and business outcomes.

  • Actively coach teams on agile mindset and SCRUM theory and tailer facilitation techniques to match team dynamics and agile maturity.

  • Uphold effective Risk & Issue Management by proactively identifying, documenting, and managing risks and issues with clear mitigation plans.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • 5+ years of Scrum Master experience in SAFe agile delivery environment.

  • Undergraduate degree with Certified Scrum Master or equivalent certification required.

  • Extensive working knowledge of SDLC and Agile delivery methodologies and proven experience in coaching SCRUM.

  • Advanced project management knowledge including plan development; scheduling methodology; project metrics gathering, analyzing, and reporting; risk assessment and quantification methodologies; cost/benefit analysis and alternatives identification; budgeting, financials and benefits management.

  • General management skills including negotiating, communicating and team building.

  • Proficiency in JIRA and Confluence

Nice-to-have

  • Advanced Certified Scrum Master Certificate and Certified SAFe Practitioner or equivalent.

  • Experience in a matrix environment, such as a large, publicly traded corporation

  • Knowledge about Insurance domain
