The Department of Natural Resources is seeking an individual to join the Wildfire Management Branch as a Ground Operations Coordinator, located in Fredericton.

As a member of the Wildfire Management team and reporting to the Wildfire Operations Supervisor, this position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the maintenance and repairs of buildings, grounds and equipment, related to air operations in the province. Responsibilities include the following: annual set up and winterization of all reload bases; ensuring adequate levels of Long Term and Foam are maintained at each base; coordinating with airport authorities for access, maintenance, and adequate inventory of required products and equipment; liaising with Forest Protection Limited (FPL) on the best practices for loaders and use of products and equipment; ensuring appropriate mixing of product to ensure efficient reload capacity; and performing other related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of three (3) years of experience near the journeyperson level in the building mechanical and/or electrical occupations. A minimum of one (1) year of experience with reload base operations and maintenance and aircraft safety and reload efficiency is required. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS: Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate the following: a minimum of one (1) or (2) years of related experience with wildfire operations. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be prepared to: work a 40-hour week; work extended hours and weekends to meet operational requirements, as required; work with a high degree of independence and judgement; operate specialized vehicles, equipment, and tools; perform physically demanding tasks; follow established safety protocols; possess a valid class 5 driver's licence as issued by the Province of New Brunswick, or equivalent. Travel throughout the province is required.

SALARY: $31.74 per hour (based on a 40-hour week)
