What is the opportunity?
Join the team as the Director, Risk & Control, RMFI you will lead the strategic design and execution of the risk and control framework for RMFI compliance safeguarding RBC's reputation and regulatory adherence in Personal Banking Distribution. This role is critical to maintaining RBC's robust risk and internal control environment and ensuring alignment with our risk management approach. You will be responsible for RMFI processes, accountable for maintaining risk inventories/registries, designing resilient controls, assessing and monitoring their performance to ensure we maintain results that fall within the risk thresholds established with RMFI, and ensuring continuous improvement in our control framework in accordance with RBC's Internal Controls Management Policy and Standards.
What will you do?
Champion risk and control processes across distribution channels to meet RMFI regulatory standards, including defining and communicating the RMFI risk and control roadmap to leadership and partners.
Develop and maintain the Risk and Control Registry to ensure a comprehensive inventory of risk statements and controls, compliant with RBC's Internal Controls Management Policy (ICMP) and Standards.
Deepen knowledge of RMFI distribution/sales processes to identify and embed controls across the client journey and product lifecycle, ensuring alignment with Risk Supervision responsibilities.
Drive full lifecycle control management (design, assessment, monitoring, reporting) to mitigate risks, supported by KRIs/KPIs, dashboards, attestations, and testing outcomes.
Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Risk Supervisors, GRC IO, RMFI stakeholders) to build a unified control ecosystem and ensure effective oversight of issues impacting RMFI business in response to Rule 1500.
Monitor control performance and efficacy, escalating material risks, issues, and gaps to senior leaders while maintaining audit readiness and supporting enterprise governance (e.g., control certification, key risk mapping).
Ensure control documentation compliance with ICMP/ICMS standards and oversee timely remediation of control weaknesses and audit/regulatory findings.
Share assessment results with Risk Supervisors and stakeholders, maintaining visibility into execution gaps and emerging risk drivers affecting the control environment.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
7+ years of experience in Risk Management, Compliance, or Audit roles within financial services, including RMFI-related expertise.
Proven expertise in internal control frameworks, regulatory requirements, and financial services audit standards.
Strong collaborative skills to manage cross-functional relationships with Risk Supervisors, Risk Owners, and stakeholders.
Exceptional communication and documentation skills, with the ability to translate complex risk/control concepts into clear, actionable language for diverse audiences.
Proficiency in control monitoring tools (KRIs/KPIs, dashboards, attestation systems) and strong analytical/problem-solving capabilities.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, oversee remediation activities, and maintain precision in governance and documentation.
Nice to have:
Strong knowledge of RMFI distribution networks (branch, Advice Centre, digital channels) including sales processes, customer journeys, and product delivery mechanisms
Background in Investments/Wealth Management (mutual funds, distribution channels) and operational processes for RMFI products (e.g., Rule 1500); experience with control management systems like ORMS
Background in internal audit, risk management, or familiarity with RBC's ICMP/ICMS frameworks
Project management experience; Bachelor's/advanced degree or certifications (CPA, CIA, risk designations)
